Visit a series of fabulous LGBT entertainment venues, shops and landmarks in Sydney's rainbow precinct as Wonder Mama shares her experiences and insights into the district and its happenings - so get ready to have a fabulous and relaxed time!
You'll visit iconic venues such as The Stonewall Hotel, The Oxford, Darlinghurst Bookshop, among others! Learn about the colourful characters that have become legends in the Sydney scene - activists, entrepreneurs and even fabulous drag queens. You'll be treated to some store discounts too, just for joining the tour!
We even have a stop for a gelato treat included in the tour!!
Wonder Mama will give you a rundown of the world-famous Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade which she has participated in numerous times. The tour will end near Taylor Square at the delightful Sydney Rainbow Crossing where we can stay to take photos!
You'll learn about the city's rich and varied queer histories and hear the stories of prominent queer citizens of the city, as well as important parts of the cultural scene, including the internationally renowned Mardi Gras parade.
Given the often hidden nature of queer history, this tour will provide a picture of what we know about indigenous Australia's view on diverse sexual orientation and gender, as well as the circumstances and stories of our queer forebears during the colonial period and into the early 20th century.
We will then bring into focus the period of social upheaval reforms that burst into the mainstream from the 1970's onwards, including the significance of the first Mardi Gras in 1978 and the following decades of protest, partying, and dealing with the HIV epidemic.
