There is no better way to experience the real side of Crete, than to traverse the island's unspoiled soil, swim in its crystal waters and stroll down its traditional villages.
This hiking tour of the Samaria Gorge will give you the opportunity to do all 3 and at your own pace.
Early in the morning, you will be picked up from designated spots around Chania via a luxurious bus and reach the starting point of your tour in Omalos Plateau around 7 am.
Shadowed by the adjacent White Mountains and with plenty of drinking water to be found along the way in many natural springs, this self-paced hike will create unique memories for every traveler. Behind your group, there will always be a hiking escort to ensure everyone's safety and provide assistance if needed. At around 17:00 you will start your trip back to the place where you were picked up from.

Very beautiful Gorge and a very kind tour guide! I would recommend visiting in June, since it’s not overcrowded.

My boyfriend and I wanted to go on a hike to break up our days of laying on the beach/pool :) It was a bit longer than I would have preferred, but it was very beautiful and worth it. The host was very welcoming, knowledgable and patient with everyone. I'd day the only confusing part was pick up, we didn't realize the parking lot down the street was where we were getting picked up. We thought it would be at the hotel so we almost missed the bus. Very glad we made it in time!

A long hike, about 13 km but absolutely worth it - for normally fit people. Absolutely not for overweight or disabled folks.
Hint: After the hike you need to show your entrance tickets to confirm you are out of the park. Stat clear of cold drinks stadion 1 and go right to number two, much more varities, before the last km down to port. Show park entrance tockets to ticket both personell to get discount for the ferry to Sougia😊

This trip was incredible - our host Andrianna was lovely, as was our driver - who saw us around Chania again and recognised us! Really lovely people.
The trip itself was lovely, we stopped for breakfast on the way - lots of options from sandwiches to baked goods like croissants and fresh orange juice too! The hike itself took me and my Dad 5.5 hours - getting to the end point for a nice cold beer or fresh orange juice! Once you finish, there is a half hour walk to the town where you meet your guide later on - some people chose to get a minibus for 2 EUR. The restaurant they recommend (the meeting point) is great and the gentleman greeting us had lots of recommendations! You then catch the ferry and then jump on the coach home - so plenty of time to rest.
I would note, it is a difficult hike - both myself and my Dad climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and both agreed this was not an easy hike. The temperatures are high which is the biggest issue. Other reviews say you get lots of shade - I’d disagree. You can see from news articles some people have become seriously unwell from the heat and so make sure you’re prepared! The terrain changes but it’s easy to fall and so you do have to watch your footing the whole way. There’s lots of water stops along the way and about three toilets on route. I didn’t hike it in walking boots but I’d definitely recommend that you do, if you’re looking to do this. One other thing to note is the quicker you finish the hike, the longer you have waiting around to get the ferry - after a long hike, we just wanted to get home.
Overall though, absolutely stunning and worth it - just be prepared and be careful, the terrain is not easy.

This was truly a spectacular experience! Dimitri was a fantastic guide and made sure we knew how to make the best hiking experience. Not gonna lie—the hike kicked my a$$ and I have blisters on blisters. But it was worth it for beautiful scenery and a one-of-a-kind experience. Great job Dimitri and company!

The Samaria Gorge is one of the most gorgious hikes I have ever done. Stunning from start to finish. Dmitry gave the perfect amount of information. Everything was very clear in terms of the route and meeting places. The pickup and drop up was exactly on time.

Great day hiking through the gorge. Depending on fitness level it is a relatively moderate hike with some downhill steepness at the beginning. This tour gives you a lot of time to complete it, so at the end there is considerable time to go eat and relax in the beach. The guide is at the back, so it is a self-guided hike throughout the gorge and you meet back for the ferry around 4:45pm.
