Phoenix is the largest city and also the capital of the US State of Arizona. The population of the city is 1,445,632 and it incorporates approximately 1,338 square kilometres of land area. The city is located jus near the meeting point of the Salt and Gila Rivers. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is the major airport of the city.
It has a subtropical desert climate as it is situated near the Sonoran Desert. You can view rare breeds of animals like mountain lions or pumas, desert tortoises, roadrunners, and jaguars. Western diamondback rattlesnakes, Sonoran Coral snakes and Sonoran sidewinder snakes which are native to this region amongst some of the most venomous snakes in the USA. Falcons, golden and bald eagles and hawks are also found in plentiful numbers.
The Phoenix Symphony is the country's major symphony orchestra, and are the state's only professional and full-time orchestra. The orchestra is based out of the Phoenix Symphony Hall.
The Phoenix Art Museum has a large collection of contemporary art works and fashion designs from around the world. PhxArtKids is an interactive zone to educate kids about all the various nuances of the art world. The Pueblo Grande Ruin and Irrigation Sites are archaeological sites of pre-Columbian era. The Musical Instrument Museum has the most extensive collection of musical instruments in the world.
If you fancy a few rounds of golf, the city has more than 200 golf courses. The Casa Grande Ruins National Monument preserves the building structures made by ancient tribes of the Hohokam period. The Agua Fria National Monument is a conservation area for native geographical structures, flora and fauna.
The Montezuma Castle National Monument preserves the habitats built and used by the ancient Sinagua people, and the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument is designated as a biosphere reserve by the UNESCO.
