Whilst the suburbs of Maun are mainly traditionally built, thatched rondavels, it is dotted with modern shops and offices. Be sure to keep a sharp eye you'll be sure to find rondavels which incorporate old metal drink cans into their mud walls.

Being the fifth largest town in Botswana, Maun has a population of well over 55,000. Even though Maun is still officially considered a village, Maun has developed rapidly and has spread along the Thamalakane River. Scattered along the wide banks of the Thamalakane River, donkeys, goats and cattle can be seen feeding alongside red lechwe.
