Laying splendidly on the north tip of Lake Annecy, and in the north of the French Alps is the city of Annechy. The city is 35 kilometres to the south of Geneva, and is the capital of the Haute-Savoie department. It is home to nearly 53,000 people, and consumes only 13.75 square kilometres of land.

The heart of the city has been built around a Chateau dating back to the 14th century. It is then divided into smaller areas by small streams and canals that run from Lake Annecy. The lake itself if a true masterpiece of nature, with it's mesmerising sparkling turquoise waters. Then as you look heavenward you are greeted by the wooded and snow capped mountains.

This is a remarkable city that just beckons you to be outdoors. With its colourful houses and more geraniums than you have ever seen in your life, it is a true sight to behold. Yet the strange thing is the local, they have almost become completely nonchalant living in this 'mural from a psychiatrists office' town. That must just the price you pay for living in the closest thing to the Garden of Eden.

Annecy has some truly amazing tourist sites such as the Chateau d'Annecy, the Palais de I'Isle, the Pont des Amours, Semnoz, La Tournette, Thiou, Fier, the Annecy Cathedral, the Cathedral of Saint-Pierre, the rue royale, the money workshop of the Genevois, the Church of Saint Maurice, the European Gardens, the rue Sainte Claire, the Imperial Palace and the Basilique de la Visitation.

No matter what you decide to do in Annecy it will be a remarkable experience. Just stroll the streets and enjoy the tasty delights from one of the many cafes, with a cup of coffee whilst staring into the mountains, or take in the local attractions, I'm sure whatever you do, you'll agree, Annecy truly is a sluice of heaven!
