Not only is the Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport the biggest in France, but it is one of the main aviation centres of the world. The airport is also referred to as Roissy Airport, and has an IATA code of CDG. The airport was named after Charles de Gaulle, who was not only one of the former President's of France, but he was the founder of the French Fifth Republic, and the leader of the Free French Forces.
The airport is some 25 kilometres to the north east of Paris. One word of warning, this airport is MASSIVE! Make sure that you allow yourself heaps of time to get where you need to be. The airport is also the main hub for Air France. The airport handles over 62 million passengers and nearly half a million aircraft movements every year. It is the second busiest airport in the world, and the second busiest in Europe.
There are three terminals, very big terminals that make up the airport. The terminals are however interconnected by the free CDGVAL shuttle train. The airport is also accessible by the TGV and RER trains, bus, iDBus and taxis.
One good thing to know, is that since 2005 and it illegal to take photographs of anything inside the restricted area of the airport, whilst in the main public area of the airport.
