Stop At: Cairo, Cairo, Cairo Governorate
Your qualified Egyptologist tour guide will meet you outside the terminal building with a signboard having your name on it and get on a private, modern a/c vehicle for the 45-minute drive to the Giza Plateau.
Your first stop is the Great Pyramid, built by Khufu around 2500 BC, the last remaining wonder of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Next, admire the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure, and the smaller pyramids of the queens, before strolling up to a viewpoint to capture panoramic pictures. Here you'll enjoy a 25-minute ride on a camel led by an experienced cameleer. Next, explore the Valley Temple of King Khafre, which may well have been where the pharaoh's body was mummified, and marvel at the Sphinx, before breaking for lunch in a local restaurant with views over the UNESCO-listed site.
After lunch, drive into Cairo for a guided tour of the Egyptian Antiquities Museum, home to probably the world's greatest collection of Egyptian artefacts. Marvel at the golden treasures of the boy king Tutankhamen, the portraits of his heretic father, Akhenaten, animal mummies, statuary, and much, much more. Finally, you'll return to Cairo airport in good time for your next flight.

We looked for ages to find a trip from the airport that gave enough time at the museum and pyramids but did not include unnecessary visits to places we had no intention of spending money in and this trip fitted the bill. Ahmed Gaber was our guide and he made contact the day before to arrange our meeting at the airport. We were collected on time and Ahmed introduced us to our driver George. On the way to the museum Ahmed filled our heads with history. The museum was amazing, again Ahmed showed us everything and explained it's significance in detail. If your guide is well I formed, as ours was you will need to allow 3 hours at least. George then took us to our restaurant for lunch, simple but very tasty and several choices of meat. The venue is in sight of the pyramids. Next, off to the pyramids, wow. I was worried about being hassled here but it honestly wasn't too bad. Not sure if this was because we had Ahmed with us or not. Again, Ahmed was very informative and really happy to take pictures. We walked around the perimeter then George took us to the viewing point. Here we declined the camel ride but that was our choice. George the drove us to the Sphinx, beautiful and unhurried. Plenty of pictures and memories again. We can't say enough how much we enjoyed the day. George was a very funny man, great with his driving and use of horn. Ahmed really knowledgeable and a great communicator. We were back in plenty of tome for our flight. I would highly recommend this trip. 10 hours give the time for flexibility and an exceptional experience. Just be careful - the Grand Egyptian Museum is opening soon which will house most of the exhibits from the Museum of Antiquities. Make sure you are booking a trip for the right museum especially if you specifically want to see the Tutankhamen exhibits.

Ahmed Elsayed was an exceptionally talented tour guide! He expertly shared his cultural knowledge of all the historic places we visited and gave us fantastic tips on where we could get souvenirs for our friends back home. We were also accompanied by a friendly driver who stored our luggage safely as we entered museums, pyramids, and local businesses. One of my favorite moments in our layover trip was getting to ride on the friendly camels against the beautiful landscape of Egypt.

Go Discovery Travel was exceedingly professional and absolutely fun. The best part was that I was able to incorporate my own interests during the tour and not have to stick to a strict schedule. They were ready at the airport as promised, got me to the Pyramids and Sphinx in record time, treated me to amazing Egyptian food, and even helped memorialize my grandmother by getting me a ship to the Nile. All in all it was an excellent introduction to the city of Cairo and I would definitely recommend them. I look forward to booking with them again upon my return to Egypt. ASK FOR AHMED!!! He’s Great!
