This hike is no joke. Im shocked to see that it's labeled as moderate but almost half of our group needed to take a donkey up on day two. The day overall is long, there are stops to see the canyon before hand, like 3 times. It was very hot the day going down on day one. It's a 1000m descend so it's hard on your knees and toes. Day two is all uphill, 1000m incline. I don't love hiking so this was miserable for me but other hikers thought it was challenging and fun. Breakfast, lunch and dinner was great. The last day buffet (not included) was the best

Tough hike, but worth the effort. Our guide Eric was a legend - friendly, kind and entertaining - as were all the other locals with whom we interacted. Their ability to thrive at such altitude, with limited infrastructure (mules > cars) was impressive and only served to reinforce mi orgullo peruano. ¡Arriba Peru!

It was an wonderful experience with beautiful views and a chance to see condors. We had an amazing tour guide called Eric who was local and very knowledgeable about the area and was kind and helpful. Would definitely recommend if you are coming to Peru

Though for me personally the hike was surprisingly challenging, the overall impression was super positive. Breathtaking views, positive vibe in the group, and of course our guide Rafael made this hike truly unforgettable. Rafael's knowledge of the Peruvian history and culture, and canyon life is incredible, and he eagerly shared it with us. He went above and beyond to help me with a climb on day 2, which I very much appreciate. The accommodation in the oasis is basic, but honestly all you need after a 1-day descend is a bed, a shower and a meal, which were provided. The hot springs is a must after climb.

For starters, the hike was extremely brutal. My significant other and I are in our early 20s, we are both really active and found the hike to be quite challenging. If properly geared and an experience hiker it is completely plausible yet still challenging. For those that are on a weekly basis I would avoid the hike as you will be in pain through the 21km hike on the first day. After all, the canyon is jaw dropping and is 100% worth it if in physical shape.

We organised our trek through our hostel (Lonko) but I think this is also the operator Peru Hop use too. We absolutely loved this 2 day trek - to be honest though it is a difficult hike. Me and my partner are both very active people who hike in the UK and we found this challenging due to the heat and amount of downhill. That said it is definitely doable if you’re an active person. You walk 5-7km of steep downhill in the very hot conditions, then have lunch and walk another 7km or so of less steep downhill. We did experience some heavy rain towards the end of our hike which meant we were all soggy and lots of stuff didn’t dry but thats our own problem! The rooms were basic but kept you dry for a night. The walk out the canyon starts at 4:30am the next morning and is about 5km of steep uphill. It is beautiful as you see the sunrise. You them go for breakfast which was great. The hot springs are definitely worth doing! Only complaint was we didn’t receive any change when we paid our admission to the canyon (not included in the ticket price - 70 soles each), so carry some smaller notes.

It was awesome, nice Guides, we saw many many condors, hiked at lot, had awesome views, star clear sky at night. But be prepared to little sleep (if you can’t sleep in the car). Also it’s really not for beginners, the hike is really challenging for average people.

A fantastic tour which I booked just the day before from my hostel, with no pre knowledge of the company, so was taking a chance. And it was the best decision. From pick up to the journey back to Arequipa this was a well organized and thorough tour. My guide was Peter, who explained all safety aspects, always walked with the slowest person to make sure no one was left behind, have clear instructions for what the plan was etc. He stopped many times with the Groupon the way down into the canyon to explain about the plants and people - history, agriculture, medicinal uses etc. We stopped at all the important palces and weren't dragged round shops to buy stuff, we saw the condors, we had good food, good company and a great guide. Thanks Peter for making it a great tour. The trek itself is not for the fainthearted. It was hard work, especially the second day, and I'm pretty fit. The canyon itself.is stunningly beautiful. Well worth the effort. If I had to grumble about anything it was the dropoff in Arequipa. I thought I would be returned to the pick up point but we were dropped off en mass 150 metres from Plaza del Armas. Luckily this want too far from my accommodation, nit after all that hiking a lift home would have been welcome.
