Your local friendly guide will pick up you at your downtown area in Shanghai, travel to the local private artist workshop in the beautiful French concession. Upon arrival, your fun cultural experience will begin with the welcome tea. Immerse yourself in the impressive arts and get the artistic inspiration from the workshop.
Follow the guidance from your expert teacher and gain the knowledge of the famous four Chinese treasures: ink, brushes, paper and ink stone, try out writing your favorite Chinese character and name on the fine rice paper.
After enjoying the short tea break, get ready to learn the famous traditional Chinese painting, also known as “ National Painting”, one of the oldest art form in the world, It uses "Shui Mo" (water and ink) and is also a freestyle technique created by using a brush dipped in ink and water, and onto rice paper. Your teacher is an art expert and also well respected in traditional art field. With the careful guidance, create your own unique art by using genuine Chinese tools; you'll learn different brush strokes, as well as get a solid introduction to the oriental materials, tools, and painting subject.
After the class, bid farewell to your great teacher, take home the special and unique art souvenir you made. You may choose to explore the charming artist neighborhood or your local guide will help you get taxi back to your next destination.

This tour was terrific! Our teacher Ms. Zhang taught us about Chinese painting styles and patiently walked us through the basics of composition. We then painted some flowers to take home. As we painted, we drank tea and listed to the sounds of birds outside. It was so relaxing. We also got to see inside a French Concession row house and the Tianzifang neighborhood. Our great tour guide Annie was helpful and attentive throughout!

We had a fantastic experience with this private class, just myself and a friend participated. We were picked up from our hotel, and met by the tour guide, Sunny. She was super friendly and patient as I had actually given her the wrong hotel details! But she was very helpful and still picked us up on time!
The class took place in the art workshop in Tianzifan. The teacher was very knowledgaeble and skillful, and Sunny translated the whole class, assisting us as we went.
We were able to select the art work we wanted to try, then taken through a series of practice strokes and techniques, this was much needed practice!
Then we were able to select our choice of background, and the teacher took us step by step through completing our attempt at the picture.
We had great fun and felt very welcomed and taken care of the whole time. The teacher and Sunny were very attentive and made sure we had a great experience.
I would highly recommend this experience and a bonus that you can go explore Tianzifan small streets after!

Did a wonderful peony flower, there were also options for bamboo or orchard. Great experience to have in Shanghai.

I had the most rewarding class with Ms Zhang. She is a local accomplished artist, very active in the art community in Shanghai. She participates in many local and national exhibitions. She is well versed in various form of art techniques and medium. Most importantly she is a great teacher. She is knowledgeable, patient, friendly. She teaches very well with good clear explanations. i learnt a lot from her. Would highly recommend attending her class if you are interested in Chinese Painting.
