We had an awesome 3 hour fishing trip out on Lake Maporika. Our skipper was great and gave us time to cast and also troll. We were fishing for brown trout and salmon and unfortunately didn’t catch any but it was still a great night out on the lake. We did see a long fun brown eel and a fish jump out of the water which was super interesting. Would definitely recommend this fishing trip to anyone who loves getting out on the water.

The lake is stunning, and with no other boats on it this is a unique experience to be so close to mountains, the glacier, and a bush clad lake. Fishing in midwinter can be tricky, but that is why it is called fishing, and not 'catching'. However our super friendly guide Joe took us to some great spots and we caught two salmon. This was a real highlight of our West Coast holiday. Joe is very knowledgeable and shared the history of the area and knew all about the flora and fauna. With only a couple of people on this trip it was so personalised and memorable. I highly recommend this fishing experience and this company where every detail is covered. I will certainly do this again!

Dale the skipper was great. Boat definitely not set up to take eight people fishing. A tourist money grab.

We had the best experience fishing with Franz Josef Wilderness Tours! They made us a last minute booking the morning of our trip. Our kids were so excited to get out on the lake. The boat was very comfortable and the tour guide was amazing. He talked to us about the local region, the fish in the lake and he had endless patience with our kids. We all enjoyed the experience, my family enjoyed fishing off the boat and the views as we travelled around the lake just got better and better.

It was lovely scenery, and the operater was friendly. We had a relaxing time. But, it was a fishing charter. And three baby salmon that we had to throw back did not make my smoker happy! A little dissapointed.

Such a fantastic trip in a great setting - the lake was still warm enough to swim in at 7pm! Dale and his brother were super friendly and went out of their way to make the trip a memorable one - and catching the brown trout at the end was the icing on the cake! Highly recommended!
