Itinerary

Day 1: Edinburgh - Inverness

Stop At: Midhope Castle, Near Abercorn, South Queensferry, Edinburgh EH30 9SL Scotland
Your first stop is the place that needs no introduction: Midhope Castle*, known as Jamie’s lovely home Lallybroch. The cosy interior of the house has been re-created in the film studios. In reality, visitors can’t explore the ruins of the castle, instead, you can sit on the iconic steps of Lallybroch and wait for Jamie or Claire to walk through the beautiful archway in the courtyard.

*Please note that Midhope Castle is closed for the following dates in November (2nd, 11th, 15th, 18th, 22nd, 30th) and December (5th, 9th, 11th, 16th, 19th). It then closes for approximately 12 weeks from Friday 22nd December at 3pm.
Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Culross, Culross, Fife, Scotland
Heading north, you visit the charming village of Culross. In Outlander, Culross posed as the fictional village of Cranesmuir and the home of Geillis Duncan and her ill-fated husband, Arthur. Exploring the town’s cobbled streets is like taking a step back in time. Look carefully and you may even find Claire’s herb garden behind the impressive, historic Culross Palace.
Duration: 45 minutes

Stop At: Falkland, Falkland, Fife, Scotland
We continue to the small town of Falkland to relive the first scenes of the show, where Falkland represents 1940s Inverness. See if you can recognize the familiar sights such as Mrs Baird’s Guesthouses (The Covenanter Hotel) and the Bruce Fountain, where Claire’s husband Frank sees the ghost of Jamie.
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Stop At: Highland Folk Museum, Kingussie Road Aultlarie Croft, Newtonmore PH20 1AY Scotland
Then, it’s time to leave the castles and villages behind and discover the beauty of the Highlands. In the afternoon, we travel through lush Perthshire and stop at the Newtonmore Highland Folk Museum. The site houses replicas of 18th-century turf-roofed Highland crofts and gives you a glimpse into past Highland life. You’ll remember this place as one of the MacKenzie clan villages where Claire and the MacKenzie party stop to collect the rent.
Duration: 1 hour

No meals included on this day.
Accommodation included: Overnight in Inverness

Day 2: Inverness - Glen Affric - Culloden

Stop At: Clava Cairns, Balnuaran of Clava, IV2 5EU Scotland
You start your day by visiting the mysterious site of Clava Cairns near Inverness. This well-preserved complex of ring cairns and standing stones is as ancient as it is beautiful. And it’s also said to be the inspiration for the standing stones of Craigh na Dun.

Your driver-guide can’t promise any time travel here but exploring this 4,000-year-old site feels like stepping back in time.
Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At: Culloden Battlefield Visitor Centre, Culloden Moor IV2 5EU Scotland
The next stop evokes a lot of emotions; it’s the forbidding Culloden Battlefield. This site plays a crucial role in Scottish history and the Outlander books.

It’s not far from the battlefield where the couple said their tearful goodbyes before Jamie joined the Jacobite army to fight for the Stuarts. And it’s where the final Jacobite Raising came to a harrowing end, bringing on the persecution of the Highland way of life. You can explore the visitor centre and the site and pay tribute to those who lost their lives at the last battle fought on British soil.
Duration: 1 hour 40 minutes

Stop At: Clan Fraser Cemetary, General Wade's Military Road, Inverness IV2 6XT Scotland
We continue our journey to the heart of Clan Fraser lands. Here you can pay your respects at the tomb of Lord Lovat, the ‘Old Fox’ of the Jacobite Rebellion, who’s Jamie’s manipulative grandfather in the saga.

After seeing some of the most important sites from the Outlander universe, we return to Inverness with time to explore the city for another evening.
Duration: 30 minutes

No meals included on this day.
Accommodation included: Overnight in Inverness

Day 3: Inverness - Castle Leod - Loch Ness - Fort William

Stop At: Glen Affric National Nature Reserve, Cannich Scotland
Lochs, mountains and pine forests: this is one of Scotland’s most glorious glens. It’s also a great hiding spot for Jamie!
Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Urquhart Castle, A82, Drumnadrochit IV63 6XJ Scotland
We leave the ancient forests behind and continue along Loch Ness to stop at Urquhart Castle. Standing on the banks of Loch Ness for 1,000 turbulent years, this castle offers a taste of the Highlands at their most dramatic.
Duration: 45 minutes

Stop At: Glenfinnan Monument, NTS Visitor Centre A830, Glenfinnan PH37 4LT Scotland
Glenfinnan Monument, NTS Visitor Centre A830, Glenfinnan PH37 4LT Scotland
The monument here commemorates the beginning of the last Jacobite rising. It stands framed by Loch Shiel and bedside a famous section of the Jacobite Steam Train railway line, famously used as the Hogwarts Express in Harry Potter.
20 minutes, Admission is free
Duration: 30 minutes

No meals included on this day.
Accommodation included: Overnight in Fort William

Day 4: Fort William - Glencoe - Doune Castle - Edinburgh

Stop At: Doune Castle, Castle Hill, Doune, Stirling FK16 6EA Scotland
One of the most filmed castles in Scotland. It stars as Castle Leoch in Outlander, and featured in Monty Python’s ‘Holy Grail’, and the pilot for Game of Thrones.
Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Linlithgow Palace, 9 Kirkgate, Linlithgow EH49 7AL Scotland
Later, we stop for a quick photo of the ruins of Linlithgow Palace. It's a favourite of ours because of its connections to Mary, Queen of Scots. It also starred as Wentworth Prison and is known for one of the most intense scenes in the Outlander series.
Duration: 10 minutes

Stop At: Blackness Castle, Blackness, Linlithgow EH49 7NH Scotland
The last highlight of the day is Blackness Castle. This tough-looking fortress looks like it could fend off an entire empire. And in Outlander, it represents Fort William. You can choose to walk along the ramparts and explore the fictional headquarters of Jack Randall.

After having been immersed in the history and landscapes that inspired Outlander, we return to Edinburgh in the early evening.

I cannot recommend this tour more! This was seriously the trip/tour of a lifetime. Our guide was Graham, and he was the best tour guide I’ve ever had. We were all big fans of the show and I was worried that we’d get a guide who wasn’t familiar. Boy was I wrong! Graham was clearly a fan of the show and incredibly knowledgeable about everything that happened and where. He took us to some really amazing, off the beaten path places that were related to the real life Frasers and Mackenzies. It was so cool! The scenery is obviously amazing as well. Even in the cloudy rain, Glenco is one of those places you just have to see with your own eyes. I feel like i got lucky with fellow passengers too. Everyone was so nice and I didn’t feel ‘alone’ at all, even though I was a solo traveler. We had folks from all over the world, and it was fun having this fandom in common. :-) The Rabbie’s van was comfy and I liked that Graham didn’t over-program us each day. I think had we done 12 hr days each day we would’ve been too tired to enjoy it. It was absolutely perfect. Not only did Graham entertain us with stories of Scotland, the locations of Outlander and had a fun sense of humor, he also had a perfect playlist featuring Scottish folk singers and pipers mixed with outlander music and all matched our surroundings and sites. He also helped find us some highland hairy coos, which made us all very happy! It was just perfect. Amazing! You should do this tour. Note: I booked my own hotels. One was great, the other not so much.

We were so looking forward to our Outlander tour with Rabbie's. The day before the scheduled tour, I became very ill and tested positive for Covid. My husband called to cancel, but Rabbie's refused to refund our payment. We didn't cancel due to changing our minds about the tour, we cancelled because I was too sick to go on tour, and thought it unethical to expose our guide and the other guests to the virus. Doing the right thing can be expensive.

We took my Mom on her dream vacation through Scotland. This included the Outlander tour. Our driver was William Drummond. We consider ourselves lucky and better off for having him as our driver and guide. The tour was excellent and William improved it with his vast knowledge of history and his endearing dad jokes! He made the most of our tour with his knowledge of the area, when to stop, his amazing driving and great timing. My mom is a die hard Outlander fan and I was worried it would be so specific to the show the rest of us may struggle to stay engaged. We were amazed, William was not only knowledgeable about those things which made it great for her, he knew so much about Scottish history that it made it fun and fascinating for us as well. Great driver, great guide and great time! Scotland is a truly majestic place and William made us love her all the more! Scots have a lot to be proud of in the untouched beauty of their land, the way they work together to preserve their gift, their friendly nature and their willingness to share it with the people lucky enough to visit. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

A fantastic four day’s traveling through the Highlands with an amazing Rabbies tour guide Jim Divine! What a treat! His knowledge of Scottish history was incredible and his enthusiasm and attention to detail made the experience more memorable. With his passion for photography he took us to the best spots for our photo opportunities and he even made sure we had a super group photo on our last day to remember our fellow travelers. The scenery was awesome and being on a small bus enabled us to visit historic sites that the larger buses can’t reach. The accommodation in Inverness at Ardmeanach House was also very good I thoroughly recommend Rabbies for your small coach tours!

I had the best time on this tour. Jim Divine was my guide and he was FANTASTIC. Not only did I get to see a lot of the sights from Outlander, but Jim's knowledge of Scottish history and the Highlands was incredible and very educational. He also is a photographer and knew all the best spots to get wonderful pictures and even helped us frame the shots to get the best results. I was nervous about joining a tour as I have never done so. The group size was perfect and luckily we all got along. I also got time to wander off on my own- how I am used to traveling. I fell in love with the Highlands and cannot wait to go back. Rabbie's of course will be the company I use to tour with again.
