Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Sarria

Stop At: Sarria, Sarria, Province of Lugo, Galicia
Once you have arrived in Sarria on your own and have settled in the accommodation, you can enjoy the pilgrim atmosphere of the town strolling through the cobbled streets of its old area, or relaxing along the Malecón promenade in one of its riverside terraces. A day to rest, get mental and prepare to live an unforgettable experience.

Good way pilgrims!
Duration: 8 hours

No meals included on this day.
Accommodation included: Accommodation in a room with private bathroom in one of our Hotels and rural houses.

Day 2: Stage Sarria - Portomarín (22 km)

Stop At: Portomarin, Portomarin, Province of Lugo, Galicia
You will begin your first day as pilgrims with a first stage characterized by the majesty of its forests, rivers and small rural villages surrounded by pastures. You will walk through a comfortable terrain and without many slopes, discovering as you go some monuments such as the Church of Ferreiros or that of Barbadelo. You will also find many places to refresh yourself and rest. A few kilometers before reaching the end of the stage, you will see the Belesar reservoir in the distance, an indicator that you are already reaching the end of the stage, Portomarín.

Portomarín is a place as beautiful as it is peculiar. This town had to be relocated from its original enclave to a higher point in the valley, due to the construction of the Belesar reservoir on the Miño river, which caused the flooding of the old town's enclave. On a clear day you can see the remains of the old Portomarín at the bottom of the river. You will be able to enjoy the local gastronomy, moments of relaxation and rest.
Duration: 5 hours

Meals included:
• Breakfast: Breakfast included
Accommodation included: Accommodation in a room with private bathroom in one of our Hotels and rural houses.

Day 3: Stage Portomarín - Palas de Rei (25 km)

Stop At: Palas de Rei, Palas de Rei, Province of Lugo, Galicia
In this stage you will combine road and mountain for 25 kilometers of route. After climbing some slopes, it will be worthwhile to make a small detour along the way to visit the Castro de Castromaior, a Celtic town that leaves evidence of the past of the Galician community. After passing several villages, you can visit the monastery and the church of Vilar de Donas, one of the main examples of the Romanesque style in the area, which was declared a National Monument in 1931.

Already in Palas de Rei, where you will have all the services, you will only have to worry about resting and discovering the wonders of the town. Place of castrex roots, Palas de Rei has various archaeological remains such as mámoas, dolmens or castros, which are witnesses of this culture.
Duration: 5 hours

Meals included:
• Breakfast: Breakfast included
Accommodation included: Accommodation in a room with private bathroom in one of our Hotels and rural houses.

Day 4: Stage Palas de Rei - Arzúa (29 km)

Stop At: Arzua, Arzua, Province of A Coruna, Galicia
It is the longest stage of the French Way within the Galician community, 29 kilometers separate you from your destination, so we recommend taking the stage calmly and enjoying the surroundings, since it is also one of the sections with the greatest scenic beauty of the itinerary. Already in the province of A Coruña, dirt roads, lush forests and medieval bridges will guide your way to Santiago de Compostela. For all pilgrims it is mandatory to make a stop in Melide, capital of the Galician octopus; In any of its many grocery stores you can taste this delicacy of Galician gastronomy. After recovering your strength, the last kilometers will not require much effort and once you have reached Arzúa you will have the rest of the day to rest body and mind.

Once you arrive in Arzúa, you should not miss trying the typical cheese to which they give their name: Denomination of Origin Arzúa-Ulloa; accompanied by other typical products of the area.
Duration: 6 hours

Meals included:
• Breakfast: Breakfasts included
Accommodation included: Accommodation in a room with private bathroom in one of our Hotels and rural houses.

Day 5: Stage Arzúa - Pedrouzo (19 km)

Stop At: O Pedrouzo, O Pedrouzo, Province of A Coruna, Galicia
Today you are in luck, your feet will hardly suffer since you will find yourself with a short and less complex stage than the previous ones. You will walk through flat and comfortable terrain, finding an abundance of bars, shops and places to rest. Santiago is getting closer and closer and the pilgrim ritual of this stage is to go to bed early to get up early and take advantage of the day in Santiago de Compostela.
Duration: 6 hours

Meals included:
• Breakfast: Breakfasts included
Accommodation included: Accommodation in a room with private bathroom in one of our Hotels and rural houses.

Day 6: Pedrouzo stage - Santiago de Compostela (19 km)

Stop At: Santiago de Compostela, Santiago de Compostela, Province of A Coruna, Galicia
It is a relatively short stage and without difficulty, we recommend getting up early to arrive early for the pilgrim's mass and take advantage of the day in Santiago. When you arrive at Monte do Gozo, you will discover the reason for the name of this place: the tingling, that pleasant sensation that will invade you when you see the towers of the cathedral from a distance, getting closer and closer. As you descend towards the city, the blisters and fatigue will disappear until they disappear completely in the most magical moment of the entire Camino: the entrance to the Plaza del Obradoiro.

You have arrived in Santiago, the city where the rain works magic on wet stones. After having stamped your credentials at each stage and collected your Compostelas, it will be time to enjoy the city. Enjoy strolling through the old town with a fresh beer accompanied by a delicious tapa, dancing and singing in a foliada, or trying one of its liquors.
Duration: 5 hours

Meals included:
• Breakfast: Breakfasts included
Accommodation included: Accommodation in a room with private bathroom in one of our Hotels and rural houses.

Day 7: The end of the trip

Stop At: Santiago de Compostela, Santiago de Compostela, Province of A Coruna, Galicia
This is a day of farewells for many, the end of a path, and why not, the beginning of many. On the last day you will wake up with one more path in your lives, but not a path of kilometers, but of experiences, emotions and new friendships; a journey that will be projected in your lives and will help you to continue walking freely towards your own goals.

You have completed the French Way that you started from the town of Sarria a week ago.

We took a Self Guided Tour from Sarria to Santiago de Compostella. My wife had an injured knee and Galiwonders modified our walk so we took longer walking only 10 - 15km each day. We stayed in single rooms which were easy to find in most cases but in some cases were quite difficult. In one case there was no street sign and no sign to the Casa. The walk itself is so much fun and you meet interesting people along the way. The countryside was beautiful and we learnt a lot about Spain. We were really impressed by the tidy homes and rubbish free Rua (streets).

We had some concerns with this company. The emergency number did not work, phone calls were unanswered and WhatsApp’s remained I responded to for days on end. Weekends were a complete deadzone as well. The quality of accomodajron was also highly variable even on a more expensive package, culminating with a hotel aka auberge with no hot water and a “The Shining” theme. On the flip side the guides were good and there was a responsive email service prior to the visit.

Amazing experience. I’ve been thinking of doing this for years. Figured at 70 it was time. Beautiful countryside, great food along the way. Some hills were a moderately challenging but nothing extreme. Fellow walkers from around the world are amazing company. We booked our hotel stays through Santiago Ways who did a fantastic job. It was great having accommodations lined up beforehand. The Camino will always remain as one of the greatest achievements of my lifetime

I went Camino de Santiago on my own. The agency helped me with arranging the accomodation and luggage transportation. Everything worked well. I am grateful they managed to find pensions as it was already very busy everywhere. A tip if you consider to travel with the agency: wait with any expenses/bookings (trains, flights etc) until they send you a list of hotels/dates and all the documents for the trip.

I chose this company over others that are promoted in the US, first because they gave me a lot of follow-up through emails, they answered my questions quickly, second because I thought that being a Spanish company, They knew better the needs and requests of the clients: BIG MISTAKE !! !! While it is true that I made the decision almost overnight, there are no excuses for the poor service and the fatal selection of hotels that they made for me. In these days of Covid, tourism is barely recovering in Spain and the rest of my trip that I planned myself, I got excellent stays at a very good price, and in the same way, I looked for accommodation the same day without problems. This company used my lateness as an excuse to placed me in low-class hotels and some of them very far from the towns, when they charged me for "superior accommodations." And the worst of the case is that when I presented my complaint, they answered me in an arrogant way reminding me of their reservation policy (threatening me with not returning my money), and that I focus on the road and not on the accommodations…. They did not respond to my emails and my WhatsApps, until Monday after I almost finished the way. It is NOT true that they work 24/7. They are NOT a trustworthy company, and they do not treat their customers with the respect that a customer deserves. Definitely, I do NOT recommend Viajes Camino de Santiago, because after they receive the payment, they don’t care the customer's opinion.
