Visit: Centro de Rescate Las Pumas, 1 Interamerican Highway 4.5km from the city of Canas, on the way to Liberia, Guanacaste; next to the Interamerican Highway., Canas 89-5700 Costa Rica
Las Pumas Rescue Center rescues wildlife, providing medical care and temporary homes to those in need of rehabilitation. In extreme cases, this temporary home may become permanent.
If you’re around Guanacaste and you (or your kids) want guaranteed animal sightings, then this is it.
Since it’s in the name, let’s start with those wildcats, as they’re some of the toughest animals to spot in the wild. There are six species of wildcat in Costa Rica, and five wildcat species at Las Pumas Rescue Center: jaguar (Panthera onca), cougar (Puma concolor), jaguarundi (Herpailurus yagouaroundi), ocelot (Leopardus pardalis), and margay (Leopardus wiedii).
And, while the wildcats are certainly a highlight, you’ll love also seeing Geoffroy’s spider monkey (Ateles geoffroyi), white-faced capuchin monkey (Cebus capucinus), greater grison (Galictis vittata), white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus), keel-billed toucan (Ramphastos sulfuratus), and scarlet macaw (Ara macao).

Wonderful experience and highly recommended place to visit while in Costa Rica! We booked our admission ticket and tour in advance. We were greeted upon arrival by a professional, knowledgeable guide who told us the history of each animal and of the rescue center. She knew right where to find each of the pumas! Nice gift shop with unique childrens T-shirts! We spend a little over 2 hours and did a self "re-tour" after the official tour. Put this on your bucket list for Costa Rica.
