Itinerary

First we will meet at Puako Beach where you will get oriented with the Guide, Gear, Fishing technique and amazing scenery of Puako Bay.

We will then start Fishing using a mix of Old Hawaiian, Alaskan, and Modern fishing techniques. Depending on experience, either learn how to cast, retrieve, feel or notice a bite and ultimately reel one in! If you are an experienced angler we will just get right into fishing. Fishing will last until 6pm.

After fishing, we will have fish photos or group photos taken by your Guide. If the fish are biting, and you decided to take one or a couple to eat, you can either cook at your home/condo/rental or there are two amazing local restaurants that will cook your fresh catch for you.

Finally, we will share photos and smiles as you end your evening fishing trip with Hawai'i Beach fishing.

Mckenzy was super cool and helped me and my kids catch our first fish in Hawaii. He was super patient with them and they were so excited when they caught a fish called an omilu. Definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Hawaii!

When I was planning my trip to the Big Island, I realized there were only two places which offered guided shoreline fishing. This one, and another one based near Kailua Kona. I tried the other outfit first but I was rudely told they were not interested in my business because I was not able to rent a car, and they would not be able to take me if I was coming by taxi or Uber. I am not sure what that was all about, so I contacted this outfit - Hawaii Beach Fishing. If you book through FareHarbor, you will get an email confirmation from "Alaska Fishing", which is quite confusing, but this is the same company. Our guide for the afternoon was Lia, who helps out MacKenzie when he is busy. Lea met us at a local fishing spot. We were contacted by text message a couple of days ahead and we were given careful directions on where to meet. Within 10 minutes of meeting, Lia put me and my son in our fishing spots and we were casting from shore for fish. I was worried initially about fishing from rocks, but this was not an issue. If anything the only concern was the hot sun and lack of bites. To be clear, this was not at all Lia's fault. I saw several other local fishermen nearby, so it seemed like a good place to catch. Unfortunately the fish were not biting that day. My son, on the other hand did catch a couple of fish and he said he learned a bit from Lia on when to tug after feeling some nibbles. Although he did not catch a lot, he said he definitely wanted to do this again when we return to the Big Island. I was quite surprised. Overall, Lia was fine - her guidance and her company were good. I did wish she might have brought some beverages or some small conveniences like that. Otherwise, I am not sure if the whole experience was worth USD 175 per person. Overall though, I would very much contact this company again if I return, I would just make sure to bring some cold drinks with me next time.

Not provided lessons, or tips on how to fish. Rocks were not safe, hard to balance on, 2 of us fell, both seniors. I ask that we move so we went to a beach behind an industrial park, I paid for 7 to fish, only 3 ended up fishing. One person was never offered a pole, I am and already have requested a refund, please contact me at 847-625-3149

We went on another trip this time the afternoon. We caught a lot and learned a lot about the reef as it transitions into night. Loved it!
