Itinerary
The first part of this class is theoretical, we will start by presenting the 7 principal Arabic maqam 'scales' and their poetic meanings in the Arabic culture, with some examples of the famous songs for each maqam.
The second part is practical, I will teach you how to play the quarter tone with the oud instrument, and then if you have some previous experience with the oud you can pick an Arabic scale that you want to learn with the oud instrument, or if you are a beginner I will teach you how to play the famous C Major or C Minor.
In the end, you are invited to drink the local mint tea in Chefchaouen or a beverage of your choice.
This will be all for this Arabic music class, it's a quick introduction to Arabic music. But you can have some more advanced courses next time if you decide to learn more about the oud instruments and Arabic songs.
