Itinerary
The journey starts with a short briefing introducing local species, rules and responsible practice on tour, onboard safety, and equipment use.
Follow your Guide and Skipper to your designated boat, and go out to sea. Lookouts high inland help locate our friends, and provide directions via VHF Radio to where the boat travels, initially at high speed.
While approaching our friends very carefully, your Guide will evaluate if all favorable conditions are met to allow the activity’s proceedings.
Always be ready and prepared to go into the water - 2 swimmers alternate in the water at safe distance during limited periods of time, and you do not want to miss out on each opportunity in which Dolphins can choose to come closer driven by their friendliness and curiosity.
Exclusively between late Autumn and Early Spring with water temperatures averaging between 16ºc and 22ºc, and depending on specific species’ birthing season and behavior, it is possible to swim with any of 4 different species of Dolphins - Common Dolphins, Bottlenose Dolphins, Striped Dolphins and Risso’s Dolphins.
On a second part of the tour, snorkel, to discover the marine fauna & flora in the island’s sea bed.

It is important to understand that, in the wild, it is not possible to control animal behavior, and proximity or interaction can never be guaranteed.
This is a high conservational risk activity: a qualified Guide will always be there to ensure the best environmental & conservation standards during the tour. It is not permitted to: use fins, touch, feed, be too noisy, make abrupt movements, or swim too fast in their direction.
English is the official language, but our team is multinational and will do their best to accommodate your preferred language (this is not guaranteed).

Wonderful experience, that was perfectly guided! The interaction with the animals was very respectful and we were additionally provided with a lot of information about the animals and research projects, in which Terra Azul is involved. Being in the water with dolphins is simply a unique experience. A big thank you to the Terra Azul Team!

We had a wonderful dolphin experience with Ricardo and Daniel! They made us feel very comfortable and made sure we were all having fun. It is a beautiful way to see the island from the water and to experience the dolphins up close. Seeing the dolphins underwater is a very relaxing and tranquil experience. All of the staff at Terra Azul are kind and friendly, and they were quick to respond to my questions. I highly recommend booking with them!

Knowledgeable and friendly staff - they really know their stuff, I felt really safe of the boats, the staff took good care of us and explained everything they saw. We even got to see a mother and baby sperm whale, which will stay with me as a precious memory forever.

Lifetime experience with Terra Azul. Great respect of nature and dolphin, very lucky day with great swim with atlantic spotted dolphins.

Loved every second of the dolphin trip. Would have appreciated locating a second pod of dolphins rather than the time spent snorkelling at the end of the trip.

It was a great experience for our family of 5 (children 15, 13, 11 years old)! Good information and contact with Miguel en Alex, our hosts. It was a fun ride, and the dive into the atlantic ocean and see dolphins... Wonderful!

Enjoyable tour overall. Wetsuits, masks and snorkels rather cumbersome; minimal personal interaction assisting in these items.
After a quick dip in the ocean to view dolphins, it didn’t seem worth it. Most enjoyable was viewing dolphins and whales from the vessel.

Great experience facilitated by good people that cares about the ocean, the animals and enviroment. Good instructions, felt very safe and the crew was very nice and proffesional.
And huge respect for the animals wellfare and stress level. Lastly a great “zen” moment of reflection in the end.
