Dip your toes in the sand at Punalu’u Black Sand Beach and scan the horizon for green sea turtles on the shore

Walk along a bridge that gives you a literal inside look at Hawaii, as you follow it to the eerie Thurston Lava Tube, a 600-foot-long (183-meter) cave formed hundreds of years ago by an underground river of magma.

Drive through historical Downtown Hilo, the largest city on the island.
Stop At: Rainbow Falls, Waianuenue Avenue, Hilo, Island of Hawaii, HI 96720
This 80-foot falls plunges over a natural lava cave and into the Wailuku River below. On a sunny day, rainbows appear in the mist of the falls, making for a magical view.

Stop At: Akaka Falls State Park, End of Akaka Falls Road Off Hwy 220, Hilo, Island of Hawaii, HI 96728
This towering 442-foot (135-meter) waterfall plummets into a lush ravine at the center of a state park. You’ll enjoy a short walk through the vegetation for an up close view and plenty of photo ops.

The views stop you in your tracks at the Waipio Valley lookout, where a dramatic backdrop of lush cliffs drops into the sparkling blue ocean

Great day with Drew!! Very knowledgeable about the island and all of the history! His quick wit and sarcasm made the experience even better! Got too see all of the highlights on the Big Island! Be ready for a 12 hour day!!!

The entire trip was a great experience. We saw turtles, a volcanoe, and these huge cliffs and everything in between. Henry did an amazing job!

A great day, well organised. You don’t get long at each place but it’s a great way to get a flavour of what this beautiful island has to offer, if you’re short for time.

Aaron, our guide was personable, kind, considerate, and above all that, very knowledgeable! He knew so much history of the island, it was a pleasure to just listen to his stories. The places we saw were beautiful and it was a very thorough trip. I appreciated how prepared Aaron was, he kept us hydrated by providing an abundance of cold water bottles and also included fun food stops, such as the specialty donut shop & Coffee plantation.

My wife and I did the Big Island in a Day tour. Our guide was Miexia Ahloy. He was very knowledgeable about the sites and shared lots of Hawaiian history with us as we drove between sites. The entire experience was very professional. I would highly recommend.

The van was packed and we were next-to-last to be picked up so we were the backseat drivers, lol. In practical terms, that meant that we didn’t hear everything that the driver/guide said. Some of it, I know, was conversations that front-seat people can have (I’ve been there!), but occasionally we missed something related to the next stop or other things along the way. So, not 5 stars.
But still it was a really good experience. Derek has a way of comparing volcanoes to the human body, which may sound weird but actually made the process of an eruption very clear!
We loved the black sand beach, and what a treat it was that we happened to be there when a giant sea turtle came up on the sand. Lifeguards immediately cleared and roped off the area; so cool to watch!
The bakery stop was delicious, but too short. This tour proposes to do a lot, and it does, but even with too-short stops, we got back way later than expected. So take the tour, but allow more time than stated, and be prepared to wish you could stay longer at many places!

We saw and learned so much in one day. Views everywhere were beautiful. Miexia, our tour guide was so funny, knowledgeable, accommodating. (And good looking too!! 😉😂) Miexia made sure we had water and lots of bathroom breaks. His history and stories were very entertaining. Such an enjoyable day. Seeing volcano crater and steam was amazing. Waipio valley was heavenly. Black sand beach, turtles, waterfalls, wow!!! Lunch, drinks and snacks were great. Also a shout out to Felix, who was Miexia's side kick and shadowing with him to be a tour guide. Felix took us through Lava tube. His knowledge and pointing out things we wouldn't have noticed was appreciated. "Furry plant and that spongey plant" 😉. Thank you again Miexia and Felix for such an awesome tour and a day we will never forget!!!
