In order to best appreciate the bioluminescent phenomena our tours run at sunset and early evening and it can get quite dark in the mangrove canal. So, if you are afraid of darkness, a first time kayaker, or have small kids we strongly suggest taking the earlier, sunset trip. This way you can see where you are going, get use to the environment and sharpen your kayaking skills

Due to the immense popularity the Bio Bay tour, at times can get crowded. It’s not uncommon to meet up with other tour groups waiting to access the canal leading to the lagoon. There can be bumping other kayaks along the way.

Please keep in mind that this tour takes place in a natural environment and that the bioluminescent phenomenon, although rare, can be seen year round. The intensity of brightness is unpredictable and can vary.

We had a great time kayaking and the guides were knowledgeable and enthusiastic. That said, somehow we lost our licenses and credit cards between changing for our ride and catching our shuttle back to San Juan, arranged for by the Pure Adventure. Upon discovering our missing cards, the driver turned around immediately so that we could take another look. The remaining staff also engaged in the search. Please note there are a number of different groups operating out of the same place but these folks walked the extra mile trying to help us.

Absolutely amazing. Went on 8:15 tour. The water was glowing while we walked in the water, before even getting to the kayaks. At times, the water was glowing so much that it didn't even need to be agitated. When hit/splashed with a paddle, the water would explode with blue. We would spook fish and shrimp and blue "shooting stars" would run from the kayak. At the end, the crew gave great information on the bio, stars, and surrounding area. An unforgettable experience. 10/10

This is a must-do adventure! Our guide was funny and was very thorough in educating us before we started. We went on the 6:30 tour and I highly recommend it because going out to the bay, you can see where you’re going. By the time we got to the bay, it was getting dark. It was a very good moon night, with a waning crescent moon; conditions were great for a magical, sparkling glow show. You wave your hands in the water and can see the glow. We got under a tarp in groups of 4 to get the darkest experience. When you splash water on your arms and legs, they sparkle and you can see your hands sparkle when you hold them up. Going back was dark but glowy and they put lights on your kayaks. The fish were really jumping too!

My family and I loved our experience. Our family had the only kids on the tour, our boys are 9 and 7. Needless to say, they had a blast. I (mom) had my 9 yr and my husband had my 7yr. I thought it would be best to do all the paddling myself but my son really wanted to paddle. the staff got us a paddle and Yadiel helped us to catch up with our group. He point out some termite mounds and told us about the ecosystem my son learned a lot and of course once we hit the darker parts of the tour we could see the glowing algea it was so amazing. My husband also had a good experience Natalia was super helpful when my husband and son were hit my another kayak she assisted get them back on track. Javier the lead guide was fun and helped us understand the ecosystem and how climate change may effect the area. If you enjoy outdoor activities do this tour, it was fun. We were all dirty and tired afterward but absolutely an amazing time.

A truly incredible experience. We went on May 6th at the 6pm tour and the bioluminescence was unbelievable!! The tour guides provided a tarp that was a really nice touch. A once in a lifetime experience I wouldnt miss on your trip to Puerto Rico!! The kayaking was easy on the way in but a little difficult on the way back. The tour guides make sure everyone makes it back safely. There were older people and children in the group so overall I think it's good for any age/skill level
