Stop At: Bergen, Bergen, Hordaland, Western Norway
Part 1 - A walk through the city
In the first part of the tour, we go for a walk through the lively centre of Bergen. On our way past the fish market, the theatre and the old fire station, we encounter personalities such as Edvard Grieg and Henrik Ibsen. On our tour, however, I don't only want to bring you closer to the historical sides of the city, but also to the people of Bergen and their life in the here and now.
Duration: 1 hour 15 minutes
Stop At: Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf, Bergen 5003 Norway
Part 2 - Bryggen and the German Hanseatic League
The picturesque, colourful wooden houses in the Bryggen district are the symbol of the city. Today there are cafes, restaurants and bars among the houses, which are frequented by locals and tourists. 400 years ago, however, there was the smell of dried cod in the air, which was stored here. German merchants bought the cod from Norwegian fishermen and then exported it to all of Europe. This fish made Bergen the most important trading metropolis in Scandinavia at the time. On our way through the Bryggen World Heritage Site, I will tell you what made the fish so special, what the Hanseatic League was and how life for the German merchants played out here.

I was happy joined Martin' tour because it covered all top points of landmarks in the Bergen center. With a group only 5 people, as he said "a private tour", we had enough time for asking him many things related to sightseeing places or Norway' history and culture. Martin also gave recommendation about restaurants and transportation app which are useful for us, and a lovely postcard as a gift. When going to fish market, we even tried a little of whale meat from a local shop. Everything was fantastic. Highly recommend!

This walking tour gave a great introduction to Bergen. Our guide was very knowledgeable and charismatic and he even gave us some fantastic food place recommendations at the end of the tour (that were great value for money).

Don’t hesitate and book this tour! Martin’s tour was lovely ! The walk around Bergen was a great way to start the day. I learnt a lot about past and present Bergen (and other parts of Norway). All my questions were answered. He even adapted and told me fait and stories that had to do with my interests. Martin also recommend food and activities, they were all great recommendations. The two hours flew by !

Thoroughly enjoyed the tour with Martin who is a knowledgeable, friendly and funny guide. The tour takes in the most interesting sights of the centre of Bergen and gives an insight into the city's history.
Our tour was on a day cold January day and we had a nice chat and half time warm up in a cafe. At the end of the tour Martin provided us with an information sheet outlining some of the most interesting museums and other activities in and around Bergen which we found to be helpful.
We would definitely recommend Martins tours.
