What an amazing hike! Really glad we decided to go with Tripix! Special shout out to Bruno who stuck with us and helped us make it back. Remember to get in shape before taking this on!

The guide was helpful in navigating certain unclear sections ; the hike is strenuous enough its nice not to have to worry about navigation and going the wrong way. The guide was cheerful and a good guy and pushed us when needed to do the the hike in the time.

What should say. The climb was great, Bruno was really fantastic, he guided us amazingly well on our way up and down despite the weather. And we got a lot of it and all was really bad... Nevertheless, do not hesitate to use Tripix services, these guys know what they are doing on Pico!

Overall - I did the Pico day climb in mid October and could not have been happier with the experience. I felt well cared for throughout the whole process and had an absolute blast on the mountain itself. I would recommend Tripix to anyone planning to do the climb. The booking experience and lead up - the booking experience itself was very easy and Joana was brilliant at keeping me up to date in the days running up to the climb with what the weather situation was and what that meant for the climb. I was originally meant to climb on a Monday but this got pushed back to a Thursday. All the communication about this was done clearly and with as much notice as possible which made it all very easy. Because of the unpredictable weather, giving myself a long window of days to climb worked really well for me and I'd recommend it to others. Getting to and from the start point - For a cost of 5 euros, I was given a lift to and from the start point from Madalena. The journey took about 30 mins each way so I thought this was a more than reasonable price! The climb - I was travelling in the Azores with my parents but left them in the comfort of Madalena and went solo to join leaders Bruno and his dad, and a group of 13 others to climb Pico. Having two leaders meant we could split into two groups as we found our pace. Bruno was able to gauge our group very well and planned our pace and breaks perfectly. He took care to point out sections where the path becomes trickier and got us all up safely. The summit - the final climb was a highlight and reaching the summit was very special. The views were incredible and there was plenty of time for photos and soaking in the achievement. Lunch and the descent - having lunch in a crater was a fun experience. You get 30 mins or so to eat whatever you've brought with you before starting off on the descent with a nicely lighter bag (but heavier belly!). The descent took nearly as much time as the ascent as it needed careful footing. After the climb - About a week after the climb, Tripix emailed me with a certificate, copies of group photos that Bruno had taken on the volcano and even a video of us reaching the craters edge. This was a nice added extra I wasn't expecting!

Going up the mountain with them has been a blast! We were a big group, but the 2 guides supported everyone and we all managed to follow the best pace for our needs. They were very entertaining and I would definitely choose them again!

Climbing the mountain is hard, but we thought that reaching the top was worth it. Instead we were a bit disappointed when we reached the top, because there was not much time to enjoy it: probably just 15 minutes on the Piquinho and 30 minutes inside the main crater to eat your lunch. It could seem enough, but after 4 hours climbing it and with the prospect of 4 hours to descend it it wasn't so much. We understood later that this schedule is probably due to the high amount of people that want to go up the mountain in high season (there is a limit of 200 people), so you cannot stay to much on the top (nor rest too much while you climb it). Moreover, we were expecting some more explanation from the guide about the geology of the mountain, but no information was given to us. Still a beautiful experience, but we thought it could be better.

The guide was nice. The group was very big because previous day was cancelled, so, you could not hear the guide if not behind him. Also, You can easily do it by yourself, but you need to have good legs, descent is hard 🤣. But that was a good trip. You can also do the night climb, starting 2am to get the sunrise.

We planned well for this climb up Mount Pico. And we knew that it would not be a 'walk in the park". We did complete the round trip, but it was brutal, particularly coming back down. Our guide, Bruno, was excellent. He kept up a reasonable pace, and kept on eye on everyone in our group. Like any activity, particularly one with multiple people, issues arise. Varying abilities, as well as degrees of preparedness, etc. Well one girl's shoe literally partially fell apart. About halfway down the climb the guide actually gave her one of his shoes and somehow rigged her shoe to fit on his foot for the rest of the descent down. He even brought them to a store to buy new shoes after the hike was over. A true professional.

Climb is possible to do on your own, but much easier to stick to the (easiest) route with a guide. The peak also gets a bit crowded so it’s helpful to have guides to manage traffic. Tripix was easy to plan and communicate with. We booked a group tour - the total group was on the larger side that we saw on the mountain - 16 people between 2 guides. However, this allowed us to split into a faster and slower group. The guides went above and beyond to help a kid that was having a hard time towards the end of the hike. Tripix provided hiking poles - a must for this hike. The hike down has a lot of loose rock so is easy to fall. The hike itself is challenging - would only recommend if you’re in decent shape.
