The people running the tour were very knowledgeable and friendly. I really enjoyed the cooking class and would’ve liked to have done a little bit more of that.

We thoroughly enjoyed the various activities included in the Bamboo Experience. We learned a lot and laughed a lot, (especially at ourselves) in this very participatory outing. It also gave us a chance to get away from the crowds and enjoy the peaceful nearby countryside.

Breathing in the surrounding rice fields and peaceful energy of the school constructed with bamboo made it very special and uplifting! As a US solo woman traveler it was refreshing to be a part of a small group; a delightful couple from Australia:) I loved the Guide he infused playfulness into the experience as he explained the history of Laos and styles of weaving and basketry. He even went the extra mile with guiding us patiently with how it’s done! The cooking part with the bamboo shoots was so delicious and reminded me of the value of bamboo as a nutritional and renewable, resource to replace all the plastics! (Why not???) The mung musician and dancer was the star of the show! Such a gorgeous representation of Laos and the mung community with all its wonderful contributions!! Cup Chai lye lye!!(Thank you very much!!!)

An interesting diversion from sight-seeing learning how to cook sticky- rice and weave bamboo. OK, we only made place mats but were given a frog to take way. Who knew you could cook so many dishes? Fortunately our efforts were supplemented by the resident cook.

I had a great morning here learning all about the different ways they use bamboo in Laos. We then did bamboo weaving and made a little coaster each. I started to notice how much bamboo (and the technique we were taught) was used all around Laos. We then had a cooking class which was great, the food was the best I’ve had on my travels so far, lots to try. I would really recommend this activity to anyone.

This tour was a lot of fun & very informative. Our tour guides were all very knowledgeable & friendly. All phases of the tour — the explanation about all the ways bamboo is used, weaving the bamboo coasters, preparation of rice, cooking (& eating), & musical performances — were very well done. Highly recommended.

Stunning experience giving us an insight into traditional daily life in the villages. The uses of bamboo were incredible and we thoroughly enjoyed the Bamboo weaving taking home a lovely coaster as a great souvenir. The cooking class was phenomenal and the food created was some of the best food we’ve had on our trip throughout Asia so far. Highly recommend this experience to anyone wanting a beautiful cultural experience.

This is a delightful way to enrich your experience of Laos when you are in Luang Prabang. It is a chance to learn about traditional Lao culture through cooking and bamboo weaving. You can read guidebooks to Laos before you go to try to be a thoughtful traveler, but the Bamboo Experience gives you a direct, hands on way to experience the culture and the food that is far better than anything in a book. And it is delicious and fun.
