Visit Happy Tails Sanctuary, home to 130 rescue dogs! Most of these loveable furry friends have come from the street. Unwanted, unloved or abused they all have a sad story to tell.
Make their day by coming to visit. You can walk, play and run with the dogs and get smothered in kisses.
All of the dogs in the sanctuary are up for adoption or sponsorship, and the animal loving ream works 24/7 on making sure their suffering days are over. They have a big dog park to play in and also a lovely house to rest with their favourite canine friends.
Your visit contributes towards the well being of the sanctuary dogs and also towards hosting sterilisation campaigns locally in order to reduce the over population of strays on the island.

Having seen lots of stray dogs in Mauritius, it was a great pleasure and privilege to visit and meet people on the ground who are actually doing something about it. This was a very personal guided tour behind the scenes of a busy sanctuary and rehoming centre. Nathalie showed us around the sanctuary, we met loads of lovely dogs and we spoke about the many challenges. In addition to the sanctuary they also promote responsible ownership and the benefits of having dogs neutered. It was an interesting and relaxed conversation and thought provoking.
We could have spent the day at a big tourist park paying to pose with subdued lions / cheetahs / dolphins - but for any true animal lover an afternoon spent with dogs who did seem to enjoy the ear rubs and back scratching is definitely preferable.

This was by far the highlight of my entire trip!! So happy we heard about it. The experience from start to finish was amazing! You can really tell how much love the owners have for each and every dog that they rescue. We all left with the biggest smile on our faces and I can’t wait to hopefully adopt one of the dogs in the future. Thank you so much for such a special day!

I would 100% recommend this as an experience for you when on holiday with family, friends, or partners! I can’t wait to come back and visit again next time I’m in Mauritius. Nathalie and the team are clearly very passionate about caring for each and every one of the dogs and it’s so lovely to see. I wish I could take them all home!

The whole place is full of love. Everyone that works there is clearly very passionate about these beautiful animals and are very friendly and knowledgeable. Every time we visit Mauritius we will continue to go back for cuddles and kisses with these beautiful dogs.

This was such an amazing experience. Happy tails couldn’t be a more apt name. The couple who run the sanctuary and their team care so much about their mission and it really shows. My girlfriend and I had the best time. I think she wanted to adopt every dog in there and would have stayed if we didn’t have a flight home. a feel good experience and great to be able to help out. Thanks for a brilliant day and we will definitely be back if / when we revisit the island.
