Itinerary
We have a short introduction to each other and a tour of the encaustic gallery, Then we move into the studio where I have the painting stations set up. The encaustic workshop will cover all the basics, including information about how to make paint, about the commercial paints and their applications, about supports, grounds and techniques: paint application, fusing, glazing, inscribing and mixed media approaches, safety, materials, demos of applying paint, glazing, fusing, How to get that smooth surface! I will demonstrate how to incorporate collage, create lines and texture. Special emphasis will be on how these techniques can be developed to create a unique encaustic language for each student. I will talk (and demo) about how to create the many layers, as well as some special techniques like inscribing. The first day we will take time to understand how the gas torches the perfect tool to move and fuse the layers of color. You will leave with at least one finished painting, usually more. The techniques are clearly explained and demonstrated. I give written notes.

I highly recommend this for anyone that wants to learn the basics of encaustic painting. Ezshwan Winding Is a great teacher, artist and guide in this amazing technique using wax and pigments.

I've taken two encaustic classes from Ezshwan Winding. Both were so much fun. I came in with some specific learning requests and she tailored my experience to meet those needs. She helped me incorporate photography into my encaustic pieces. Not only is Ezshwan a wonderful teacher and artist, she understands adult learning and guides you to success. I highly encourage you to take one of her classes. Chances are that not only will you leave with your own little masterpiece, but you will make a new very good friend in the process.

I met Ezshwan first time through some other occasion and saw her wonderful art studio and her works. She has a very warm and inviting energy.
A bit later, a friend and I took her encaustic workshop. We had the best time creating images we wanted. She is not only an amazing artist and a teacher for the technique, she is also a very nice person. Highly recommend her workshop!!!
