Amazing experience! But this is definitely for people in decent shape, who are not afraid of heights! 5-6 hours of hiking. Had I known how scary some of it was (no ropes, rails- like many mountain hikes) I may not have done it. But again I'm so glad that I did! Poles helped! Our guide was incredible. Extremely knowledgeable and very informative!

Climbing through a lavatube!
The views and a great guide.
Very interesting to learn about the Etna. Enough time for photo, s and a stop for lunch. The group was about 30 persons.

The tour is well worth the effort and money. But you need to be prepared for harsh winds (most of the tour - 4 hours) and the cold. On the day we were there it was windy and cold (but gorgeous views and sunshine) and three clothing layers were not enough. You do need high altitude gear like ski jackets, warm pants and caps, face warmers and gloves. The tour operator does provide good shoes and extra socks (shoes are great, they have all sizes), but the jackets are not enough. Most of us were freezing cold and a couple people turned back at the beginning of tour due to cold.
The walking and altitude is fine, like walking on a sandy beach for most of the hike.
Our tour guide was really great.
Prepare for wind and cold! No contacts - the wind lifts fine dust the whole trip. The dust gets in your eyes, hair, eyebrows everywhere.

Prompt, well organised, efficient, helpful and amazing. First time on a volcano and with the organisers I felt very secure.

Fantastic tour - it was nice to be brought higher up with the 4x4bus.
A very talenter guide with great knowledge and ability to explain about the vulcan and the eruptions. Furthermore he was very aware of the group and helped, when somebody had difficulties.

This is a complete bait and switch. We arrived on time only to find that the people running the tour did not recognize anything about our booking with TripAdvisor, and they would not let us participate unless we bought the tickets (again). Then the gondola was not running, and a bus took us only part way up, and left us on the side of the volcano with instructions to buy MORE tickets for the subsequent trip up. There was no guide. No one knew what to do, and eventually we were able to catch a bus back down. Every staff person we dealt with was hostile and unhelpful, making it seem as though their total lack of organization was our fault. At no point could I tell who worked directly for the guide service, who worked for the gondola service, or really any entity that would take responsibility for providing the service they had sold us.

A well organised and brilliant trip. We drove to Etna Cable car and parked in the large carpark. We then went to the "Hut" where we checked in and paid for the Gondola and 4x4 transport (€45 each). We then were given walking boots and socks and helmets and told we would leave as a group at 10.30 which we did. Once up the Gondola, we were split into two groups, French speaking and English speaking (they also offered Italian). We boarded the 4x4 and drove up higher which was great fun. We then walked up to 3000m stopping along the way to be shown things. After this we stopped for lunch then walked on to the other craters. It was windy and felt high walking along the rim but Marco was reassuring and kept everyone safe. A lady and a girl got scared and he looked after them well, he was great with my 7yr old as well and gave her gloves when the wind made her cold. Sliding down the soft scree was fun once you got the nack. We walked/slid all the way back down to Cable Car station. Marco our guide was fantastic and we had an unforgettable experience.

Everything is very well organised. The guide knows all of the historical info and diligently shared it all. Everybody is provided with boots, socks, jacket & helmet.
You must bring your own lunch (it is possible to buy something immediately before the trip starts but better to bring your own dtuff).
