Some feedback from our ferry adventure of April 8 from Dar to Zanzibar. Your agent came our hotel at 9:20 for a 9:30 departure. He then had the driver go the wrong way on a one way road to get us to the ferry on time, which was very unsafe. And then he did nothing to help with our bags and to facilitate us getting on to the ferry in a vert chaotic situation. We would have been better off taking a taxi. This was unnecessary stress and really not acceptable. The guy you greeted us on the island, on the other hand, was waiting for us and was very helpful. Also the face value of the ticket was $35/person and I paid $120 purchasing online! For what? Paid more than 3 times the price and not only did we receive no service, it detracted from the whole experience.

A fabulous, once-in-a-lifetime, too-short-of-a-trip. Loved the people and their traditions and beliefs. Couldn't have done this without my highly-qualified and highly recommended tour guide Aquelabaas and his assistants.

The Ferry trip from Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar was smooth, but…. the porters were extremely pushy and required tip., more than I anticipated giving them and asked if I had more to give.. excuse me sir🙄🤬. My husband was so done and didn’t even need help with our luggage and only agreed to allowed them to port for us, in an effort to allow them to make a few dollars..

I’ve never been on a high speed ferry, so I was surprised at how fast it was going. At one point it was rocking quite a bit, so be prepared with Dramamine if you need it. They also hand out sick bags. They have bathrooms and refreshments on board. If you sit on the front deck you may get wet. The business class seats look a little more comfortable than economy but in my opinion economy is just fine.

The pick up from my hotel was excellent and the driver was very good. But the bad experience came when trying to board the ferry. Everyone was just pushing and shoving their way with no form of organization. The people who own, operate and run that business needs to do better. Exiting the ferry was just as bad.

For me the ferry is a good way to travel from Dar to Zanzibar. It gives a nice view of the Dar shore and in Zanzibar you litterly arrive in the centre of Stone Town. BUT be aware, going from Zanzibar to Dar is a little nightmare for me.. The sea us rough and a lot of people get seasick including myself. The service of the ferry is good though. No complaints there, although it is recommanded to bring a jacket or sweater on the boat cause the AC is standing on Freezer mode.

Experience was amazing. Not only did they pick me up from the airport but they took me to breakfast, waiting for the ferry to land, arranged rides wherever I needed to go and set up tours last minute like I was VIP.

At the time of booking there were only2 options available: economy and business....but once I’ve arrived there were other 2 higher options allowing to wait in room with AC instead of outside. The trip was smooth, AC inside too strong, if you don’t carry a jumper it’s freezing. Showing a movie ....but with no audio.....

We bought our tickets at the office a couple days in advance. Had a local with us (our Safari guide) which helped a lot and I don't think we could've navigated it alone. It was a great experience, felt very safe all around. The waters can get very choppy, so if you're prone to sea sickness, take the earlier ferries (we were told water is calmer in the morning, this seemed to be true though we didn't have a comparison) and try to fall asleep. I recommend paying the extra 10-15 USD for the VIP class, but business class is okay as well. For VIP, there's an air-conditioned waiting room, boarding was a lot less hectic and overall it was less crowded vs business. There are official "porters" who will help you navigate the dock and help you through the security process, then ask for an exorbitant tip. They don't really ask if you need help, and honestly the help was kind of needed, and such is travelling, you sometimes need to tip "official" people for their help when it's how they make a living. We didn't figure out how to decline the large amount on the way there, but got away with a fairer tip on the way back. Just be prepared with a few thousand shillings for that tip. Getting off the ferry you will be offered a taxi dozens of times. Just be assertive with your "no" if you don't need one.
