Itinerary

Stop At: Piazzale Michelangelo, Viale Michelangelo, 50125, Florence Italy

After visiting the historic center, having traveled on the banks of the river, crossed the bridges, given the majesty of Palazzo Pitti and the small artisan shops of the Oltrarno district, it is time to climb the hill and see Florence in all its splendor from a unique vantage point: Piazzale Michelangelo.

Duration: 10 minutes

Stop At: Piazza Santa Croce, Piazza di Santa Croce 16, 50122, Florence Italy

Once you get off the Piazzale Michelangelo it is time to go back to the center, but before the tour comes to an end we will once again pass by the river, in front of the National Library and the enchanting square of Santa Croce.

The Basilica of Santa Croce located in the square is the principal Franciscan church in Florence, Italy, and a minor basilica of the Roman Catholic Church. It is situated on the Piazza di Santa Croce, about 800 meters south-east of the Duomo. The site, when first chosen, was in marshland outside the city walls. It is the burial place of some of the most illustrious Italians, such as Michelangelo, Galileo, Machiavelli, the poet Foscolo, the philosopher Gentile and the composer Rossini, thus it is known also as the Temple of the Italian Glories.

When Stendhal visited the Basilica of Santa Croce he was overcome with emotion. He wrote:

I was in a sort of ecstasy, from the idea of being in Florence, close to the great men whose tombs I had seen. Absorbed in the contemplation of sublime beauty ... I reached the point where one encounters celestial sensations ... Everything spoke so vividly to my soul. Ah, if I could only forget. I had palpitations of the heart, what in Berlin they call 'nerves'. Life was drained from me. I walked with the fear of falling.

This is wonderful way to see the main historical sights especially if you have mobility problems. Approx 2hrs and the commentary is in most languages. Our guide stopped off for photographs of most places. A very memorable day

This is an audio guided tour, there were not local insights into any of the places we drove past. There was very little time at any of the stops (except the view point). Our tour guide was not able to answer questions we had. We did not feel like we learned much at all about any of the important places as the audio tape was stopped before finishing at many of the locations. Our guide was nice and pleasant but not knowledgeable about Florence. Would not recommend if you don’t already know about the locations on the list. The 2 back seats of the golf cart faced backward, were uncomfortable, sat higher than the other seats, and make it very challenging to see out of the cart. They were very uncomfortable for the 2 guests that sat there.

This was a very nice way to get an introduction to the city. The view from the Piazza of Michelangelo is particularly stunning. While it is very easy to walk around Florence, this tour helps to get your bearings and gives you a little historical context.

Our Guide, Claudio was a real Italian character. He added colour to our Grand Tour. The weather was cold and wet but he looked after us. We came away feeling it was well worth doing this tour to get an overall feel of what Florence can offer.
