Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Waimakariri River, Canterbury, New Zealand

As we make our way through the Selwyn District you will be greeted by the Gorgeous little western town of Springfield where we make our turn off towards Alpine Jets. Here you will spend time experiencing the wonders of the Waimakariri, it’s no wonder Jet Boating was developed here in Christchurch! For those that have decided to not add this onto their tour, there are walks, views and sheep cuddles to enjoy.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Castle Hill, Castle Hill, Canterbury Region, South Island

Once back in the van we head towards Castle Hill. These weathered limestone rocks sit proudly on the tussocky hills and were once in the ocean! Over time they eroded away and started forming these amazing unique shapes you’ll see today. You might recognize this landscape from movies such as Lord of the Rings and Narnia! That’s right. Not only that, but while you walk amongst the rocks you will also see climbers and boulderers! This place is a magnet for those types of hobbies. This is not a guided walk so you will be left to explore this piece of beauty on your own.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Otira Viaduct Lookout, Arthur's Pass Road, SH73, Arthur's Pass National Park New Zealand

Also known as Deaths Corner! The Otira Viaduct Lookout is an amazing spot to see the national park in all its glory. This bridge is the only reason driving Arthurs Pass is possible! It’s huge at 440 Meters long and is a great spot for a photo of the bridge and the surrounding landscape. A little bonus too, you might see a wee Cheeky Kea! The sneaky Alpine Parrot of NZ.

Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Arthur's Pass National Park, Arthur's Pass National Park, Canterbury Region, South Island

We depart the lookout and head towards Arthur's Pass village. On the way you will be able to see the beautiful backdrop of the majestic Southern Alps up close. Once we arrive you will have the opportunity to either walk the Devils Punch Bowl or spend this time walking around the local shop. Here you will also be able to grab lunch.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Devils Punchbowl Walking Track, Punchbowl Road, off State Highway 73, Arthur's Pass National Park New Zealand

This walking track is approximately 1 hour with a
gradual incline including steps towards a ferocious 131-meter-tall waterfall. Fitness is low to moderate as you walk through the bush and forest.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: TranzAlpine: Scenic Train Christchurch - Greymouth, Troup Drive, Addington, Addington, Christchurch 8011, New Zealand

Our guide will drop you at the train station to continue your journey back towards the Canterbury Plains, via the TranzAlpine. The TranzAlpine offers open viewing carriages for you to enjoy the scenery through the panoramic windows.

The day was not without wonder & all the natural beauty that I saw before me! Mark paired me with the perfect adventure keeping in mind the time I had to spend in New Zealand & his vast knowledge of this beautiful country. Looking forward to what’s next when I return.

We had an excellent tour with Clive, doing the full day Arthurs Pass tour, visiting many sites on the way to Arthurs Pass, snacks and a packed lunch was provided as well oppotunity to buy a little bit extra. The highlight for us was the chance to go on a jet boat up the Waimakariri river (for an extra charge) and exploring Castle Hill, before taking the Tranz Alpine back to Christchurch, which offered a chance to relax and soak in the sights once again.

Van was comfortable, and drinks with snacks were appreciated. Lunch was ok but not great. Guide was engaging and personal. Selection of stops was nice. They could have been shorter but I know timing was important. A good day in general. Food on train was pretty sad though.

The overall experience was enjoyable but it was not what I expected. We were picked up at 9:00 and retuned about 8:00pm. The drive to the train took most of the day and the train ride was a few hours. That was not what I expected but it turned out to be fun. We did spend extra time at the destinations which seemed unnecessary . The price was high but we enjoyed it.

Our guide, Willem, was great, he was very informed and friendly. It was a lovely group too - it wasn't too big to be impersonal like some tours can be. The places we saw were fantastic, wonderful views and Willem had some great stories too. The train ride back was also awesome, even though it was running late and Willem met us at the other end to make sure we were dropped off safely at our stops, despite the lateness of the train. Well organised and well worth it.

Great landscapes! Our guide Clive was very nice and knowledgeable. It is good option for people traveling without a car. Also a nice way to experience the train trip without needing to take it both ways

Everything went smooth but this trip didn't deliver enough for the price. The tranzalpine railway is overrated and the train needs some cleaning!

I embarked on a day of adventure with a guide whose enthusiasm outshone their competence. While the mishaps were frequent, their friendly demeanor turned potential disasters into humorous anecdotes. The hefty price tag, however, left me questioning the overall value of the experience. A good day, but one that may be hard to justify to others considering the cost.
