It is obviously the first sight to be visited by any traveler in Cappadocia, standing as it does in the very center of the region with easy access from all directions.

Duration: 2 hours

Pass By: Cappadocia, Cappadocia

Lying in south central Turkey, the moonscaped region of Cappadocia, southeast of Ankara, is most famous for unique geological features called fairy chimneys. The large, cone-like formations were created over time by erosion of the relatively soft volcanic ash around them. Past cultures have dug into them to create dwellings, castles (like Uchisar) and even entire underground cities like Kaymakli and Derinkuyu, used as hiding places by early Christians. Nearby Kayseri is the gateway to the area.

Stop At: Pasabag, Urgup Turkiye

Pasabag in Cappadocia is located on the road to Zelve, coming from Goreme or Avanos. Highly remarkable earth pillars can be seen here, in the middle of a vineyard, hence the name of the place which means: the Pacha's vineyard. Pacha means "General", the military rank, in Turkish and it is a very common nick name. This site is also called Monks Valley. The name was derived from some cones carved in tuff stones which stand apart. Currently, there is a vineyard and a number of tuff cones standing right next to the road.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Pigeon Valley, Uchisar KasabasI Nevşehir Kapadokya, Goreme 50240 Turkiye

Pigeon Valley is a popular tourist destination located in the Cappadocia region of Turkey. The valley is known for its beautiful scenery, rock-cut dovecotes, and hiking trails. Some of the highlights of Pigeon Valley include:

Rock-cut dovecotes: The valley is known for its rock-cut dovecotes, which were carved out of the soft volcanic rock by ancient people. These dovecotes were used to raise pigeons for food, and they are a unique feature of the valley. Visitors can see the dovecotes and learn about the traditional way of life in Cappadocia.
Hiking: Pigeon Valley is a popular spot for hiking and trekking. Visitors can hike along the valley and enjoy the beautiful scenery and natural rock formations.
Panoramic views: The valley offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including the fairy chimneys, cave dwellings, and other natural wonders of Cappadocia. Visitors can see the beautiful scenery from the top of the valley.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Kaymakli Underground City, Derinkuyu Turkiye

Kaymakli underground city is built under the hill known as the Citadel of Kaymakli and was opened to visitors in 1964. The people of Kaymakli (Enegup in Greek) village have constructed their houses around nearly one hundred tunnels of the underground city. The inhabitants of the region still use the most convenient places in the tunnels as cellars, storage areas and stables, which they access through their courtyards. The Kaymakli Underground City has low, narrow and sloping passages. While the underground city consists of 8 floors below ground, only 4 of them are open to the public today, in which the spaces are organized around ventilation shafts.

Hot air ballooning is very popular, and a fantastic way to see the area's beauty from above.

Our Cappadocia day trip was memorable due to our tour guide Durdane, a sweet young girl passionate about her job and with the most soothing voice.. she took us to the most beautiful places in Cappadocia and explained the significance of each place.. very patient and flexible in her approach without imposing anything on us.. she handled a group of 7 ladies with the utmost patience.. and her passion for her work is commendable.. lots of love to the sweet jewel (as her name signifies) Durdane.
