Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, Bermeo Spain

Because “winter is here”, of course, we’ll travel westward after morning pick up from your accommodation in San Sebastian to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, a breathtaking location used in the filming of “Game of Thrones Season 7" located about 35 km from Bilbao just off the coast in the Bay of Biscay.

We will disembark the car for a stretch break and stop to admire the imposing views of the islet of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe from its lookout point. Surrounded by agitating seas and a ruggedly carved coastline, the islet of Gaztelugatxe is topped by an ancient hermitage devoted to John the Baptist.

On foot, we will descend to sea level to encounter the striking double-arch stone bridge along which Jon Snow and Daenerys walk in “Game of Thrones Season 7”. We will follow Jon Snow’s and Danny’s footsteps and hike the 241 steps of the winding footbridge, which connects the mainland to the islet, to reach the magnificent hermitage of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, where we will, as legend has it, ring its bell three times and make a wish. After stopping for photos and admiring the spectacular views from the top, we will descend from the hermitage and head back to the mainland to enjoy a much-deserved beer/wine and a pintxo (complimentary).

Note: The hike to the top of the hermitage and back is about an hour and a half and a bit steep; we recommend wearing comfortable clothes and shoes.

Duration: 3 hours

Stop At: Zumaia, Zumaia, Province of Guipuzcoa, Basque Country

Back in the vehicle, we will continue our route towards the shores of Westeros and the entry point into Dragonstone Castle by heading eastward towards Zumaia, Basque Country.

Better known as “The Flysch”, we will admire the spectacular coastline of the Province of Gipuzkoa and descend to the famous beach where Jon Snow docks to meet The Mother of Dragons for the first time to contemplate its dramatic jagged cliffs and rock formations.

We will show you the best spots for photo opportunities.

We thought we were joining a tour group of about half a dozen people but it turned out to be a private tour with just my mother and myself - what a pleasant surprise! The scenery of the Basque Coast was just breathtaking. It was worth visiting there whether one had watched Game of Thrones or not. Our guide Ander was wonderful, very friendly and considerate. It felt like being guided by a knowledgeable local friend. It was very interesting learning about the traditions, history and culture of the Basque country from Ander. Knowing more about both the land (and the sea) and the people really made the trip so much more meaningful and memorable. Ander's colleague, Nina, was also amazingly kind. She gave us a detailed list of pintxo bars that they liked, as well as suggestions of pintxos and drinks, which were truly great recommendations. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in San Sebastián and this tour was the highlight of our entire trip. We hope to return to the Basque Country in the future and explore the region further with Nina and Ander.

We had a wonderful time touring the Basque coast with Ander and Nina. They took us to great spots and added a lot of interesting information to go along with the incredible scenery. Overall it was a day filled with lovely sights, much needed exercise, nice lunch and good company. Note that there is a bit of walking involved. You can go as slow or fast as you want, but you should be comfortable with steep (paved) hills to enjoy the tour. Nina and Ander even arranged for our taxi to the airport early the morning following our tour. They couldn’t have been better hosts.

Our guides Ander and Nina were amazing. The trip was for Game of Thrones filming locations but they made it so much more with the background from the sites and knowledge of the area and it’s history. Would do another trip with them anytime.

We had an amazing boutique experience on the Game of Thrones filming locations tour of the Basque Coast with Nina & Anders. While the views were spectacular what made the tour unique was having the opportunity to get to know Nina and Anders and learning about the Basque culture through their personal stories and experiences. It did not take long for my husband and I to feel like we were on a day out with friends. Anders is extremely passionate about his Basque heritage and they are both very knowledgeable about its history. Since it was just my husband and I on the tour they were able to tailor aspects of the tour to our specific interests. My husband is an avid golfer and having discovered that through our conversations, Anders took a different route back so he could show my husband a golf course along the coast. The place where we had lunch had amazing views and was away from the “tourists” which allowed us to have an authentic experience. We really enjoyed learning about the local cider and drinking it 😜 while eating pintxos. We absolutely loved San Sebastián and this tour made our time there even more memorable. We hope to return to San Sebastián in the future and would not hesitate to book another tour with Nina and Anders.

Loved what turned out to be a private tour of the Basque Country! This does highlight two GoT filming locations on the beautiful Atlantic coastline, but Nina and Ander added so much more interesting local facts and tidbits throughout that you tended to forget that it was a GoT-themed tour. We were conveniently picked up right on-time from our hotel in San Sebastian. WORRY-FREE and MEMORABLE -- so important when your vacation days are limited and you want to pack in the most value for your money and time. Thank you Nina and Ander!
