Our guide, Heather, was great fun and kept us safe as we traversed the glacier. She was very knowledgeable about the geology and history of the glacier, and kept our group of young adults through seniors engaged. It is most sobering to see the swift rate of decline in the size of the glacier. We are so glad we had this opportunity!

We debated this one long and hard. But, we decided that on our one week hiking trip in Banff and Jasper National Parks that we would splurge on a glacier walk. We were pleasantly surprised by the experience. Our guide did a great job of explaining the surrounding terrain and pointing out interesting features on the glacier. We were so happy to be hiking on the glacier and not riding one of the busses on steroids out to the glacier. Ice Walks provided the crampons and any other gear needed to make the hike pleasant.

Before joining this tour, I emailed to specifically ask about the level of difficulty and was told the guide walks up the ‘tourist trail’ to the glacier before going on the ice. I googled the trail and could see it was well formed and very manageable.
On the day of our tour, our guide unfortunately did not take this route onto the glacier, instead taking the very rocky option through the moraine. He returned via the tourist trail. The other people on our tour had no issue with the moraine but I found it difficult. The guide stopped at times to share information and give others a break but because I was behind the pack, I missed some info and didn’t really get breaks.
Walking on the glacier was amazing but short lived. If we’d taken the tourist trail we would’ve been at the ice much sooner.
I am leaving this review as I want people to be aware they may need to negotiate a steep, rocky moraine. I did also email Ice Walks who explained the route to the ice has to change with the glacier changes - but the tourist track is always there and usable so I’m still unclear why the guide took the route he did.

The glacier is stunning up close, with all the different colors and textures and features of the ice. It's also really cool to see the uncovered rocks. There weren't a ton of options to stop and take photos, but I feel like I got the essentials. Hike is steady uphill, up a trail and then up the glacier - easy for regular hikers, but may make others out of breath. Not slippery at all with the crampons they provide everyone. This is a unique way to see the glacier and its ice features up close.

Two stars for the must see glacier, but our guide had no empathy at all, so word of warning to all, if you are not young, super fit, and active take some other tour.

We had a fantastic time touring on the glacier. Icewalks provided an excellent experience. We enjoyed the small group size and knowledgeable guide. We learned a lot and got some great pictures. They provided gear (crampons, waterproof pants, coats, etc). If needed. You get to explore a lot more with the walk and have a more personalized experience. AMAZING!!!

The beauty of the glacier. Something not everyone gets to experience especially future generations. Verycold but added to the experience.

Our guide Heather was great! Enthusiastic, knowledgeable, helpful and mindful of the clients.
I did it and thoroughly enjoyed it but at 72 years old I felt I was slowing the group down a bit as it was near the limit of my physical capabilities.
