1) After picking you up at the Airbnb/Hotel on a comfortable and private transportation, we'll head to the south of Medellín towards the beautiful countryside, just 20 minutes away from the city, we'll get to see a different perspective, absorbing the vibrant and vivid life around Medellín.

2) Soon we'll arrive to a gorgeous little coffee family farm, immersed in natural beauty, full of a diverse of crops, where we'll live an authentic coffee experience that will take you through the entire process of coffee-making, from the coffee plant to the cup. Surrounded by the beautiful landscapes of Antioquia, you'll gain a deeper understanding of the art and science of coffee-making. From picking the cherries to roasting the beans, you'll learn about the complexity, hard work and dedication that goes into producing a simple cup of coffee.

Duration: 3 hours

Pass By: Sabaneta, Antioquia, Colombia

3) You'll learn everything about the wonderful world of coffee! In Colombia, coffee is not just a drink, it's a cultural heritage and a source of pride. We'll guide you through the fascinating journey of coffee, from the moment it's picked to the point where it reaches your cup:

PICKING: The journey begins us as coffee pickers carefully selecting only the ripest coffee cherries. These cherries have a deep, rich red color, indicating that they are ready to be harvested. It's like picking the juiciest fruits from a tree! We'll use our eyes and fingers to pluck the cherries, making sure to collect the best ones.

DEPULPING: Once the cherries are picked, they need to be processed to extract the coffee beans. This is where the depulping stage comes in. The cherries are fed into a machine that removes the outer skin and flesh, revealing the precious coffee beans inside. It's like peeling off the protective layer to unveil the hidden treasure within.

Pass By: Sabaneta, Antioquia, Colombia

WASHING: After depulping, the coffee beans still have some sticky residue on them, called mucilage. To get rid of this, the beans are washed thoroughly with water. This helps to clean and prepare them for the next steps. It's like giving the beans a refreshing shower to ensure they're squeaky clean.

FERMENTING: After the coffee cherries have been depulped, they go through a process called fermentation. This step is essential for enhancing the flavors of the coffee beans. The depulped beans, still coated with some of the fruit's pulp, are placed in fermentation tanks or barrels. Enzymes naturally present in the fruit's pulp work their magic, breaking down any remaining mucilage and adding complexity to the coffee's flavor profile. It's like marinating the beans in a special sauce, allowing them to develop their unique taste characteristics.

Pass By: Sabaneta, Antioquia, Colombia

DRYING: Now it's time for the coffee beans to dry out. They are spread out in thin layers on large patios or raised beds to soak up the warm sun. As they dry, the beans gradually lose their moisture content and develop their unique flavors.

THRESING: Once the beans are dry, they are ready for the threshing process. This involves removing the outer parchment layer that protects the beans. Machines or traditional methods are used to separate the beans from the parchment.

ROASTING: Ah, the final and most exciting step! The green coffee beans are carefully roasted to perfection. This is where the magic happens, as the beans undergo a transformation and release their incredible aromas and flavors. Roasting is an art that requires precise temperature control and expertise. The beans turn from green to brown, and their flavors develop depending on the roast level. It's like toasting a marshmallow over a campfire, witnessing its color change and savoring the delicious result.

Pass By: Sabaneta, Antioquia, Colombia

And there you have it! From the moment the coffee cherries are picked to the point where they are transformed into the fragrant beans we know and love, the journey is filled with care, craftsmanship, and passion. So, next time you sip a cup of Colombian coffee, remember the intricate process behind it and savor every sip of this remarkable beverage.

The tour with Alex was informative and fun - we got to spend the half day with him and Antonio, who owns the farm. They were both incredibly knowledgeable and made the tour a highlight of our trip. Definitely support this wonderful family and their business!

We had a great time on this tour. It was very informative and we were treated like honored guests. We got to pick some coffee beans and try different methods for brewing coffee. The farm was very humble, which we liked, and close to Medellín. We didn't have time to go to a coffee region like Jardín, so it was great that it was so close.

Fantastic tour with our extremely knowledgeable guide, Laura. Not only did we learn about the history of coffee and the process from planting new coffee trees to roasting, but a bit about the history and growth of Medellin. Picking the beans during a thunderstorm (we insisted) was awesome! Turned our coffee tour into an adventure coffee tour!

We had a great coffee tour with Camilo from Andes tours. The small coffee farm is only about 20 mins just outside the city and we were lucky to have the actual owner of the farm show us around. It was an amazing experience to fully understand the coffee harvesting process and the ways to actually make a cup of coffee. Note, after this tour you will never want to drink instant coffee again! Camilo was a great guide and superfun guy to be around. He is extremely knowledgeable about the whole area and the history of the country. Definitely recommend this tour and if you can request Camilo I am sure you will have a great time.

To start with: Absolutely Faultless! We got picked up by Juan Carlos from our hotel which was already a relief to begin with. Then he explained all of the different areas, lots of history, not just about coffee but about Medellin and Colombia, we really enjoyed hearing the stories and before we knew it we had arrived. The location too is wonderful, picturesque views in the mountains (still so closely located to Central Medellin which is amazing.) Everything was super organised from Start to Finish and you get involved with picking a small amount too, it's a great experience along with the coffee tasting in 4 different ways! We also got to try a traditional dish. All in all one of the best afternoons we've had and a great experience of Colombia, from Vanessa's fantastic and super responsive communication, to Juan a kind person who is extremely knowledgeable and helpful with everything. At the end he dropped us to an easy point where we just needed to hop on the train for a brief duration to arrive back home. Thank you for such a great experience, that we will continue to treasure forever!

Really loved this experience. Our guide Diego was amazing and we learned a lot. He was able to answer many of our random questions about coffee. I would strongly recommend this tour for people who want some nature and to get out of the city for a bit, without going far.

Carlos was a wonderful guide, he was super knowledgeable about the coffee making process as he was a coffee farmer himself. The farm he took us to was beautiful and it felt like we’re were long outside the city although it was only about a 30min drive from el Poblado. The family that owned the farm was so passionate about coffee and we got to try their coffee several different ways. We also go to learn about the growing process, got to pick some coffee ourselves and follow it through the roasting all the way to the cup! If you are in Medellin please take this tour! You will be so glad you did!!

Our guide Carlos was amazing! He knew so much about the coffee growing process as he was a coffee farmer himself. He took us to a small family farm right outside the city. The family that operated the farm was lovely and very passionate about coffee. We started by trying coffee prepared in different ways, then we got to pick the bean ourself and follow them through the whole processes. The tour was so wonderful and we learned so much. The coffee we got here was some of the best we’ve ever tasted! Could not recommend more!
