Stop At: Dr. Wagner's Honey Island Swamp Tours, 41490 Crawford Landing Rd, Slidell, LA 70461

Enjoy this Louisiana Swamp experience — a unique outdoor adventure that is safe, organized, fun, and educational.

Upon arrival at the starting location on the West Pearl River, in Slidell, Louisiana, venture in to the gift shop overlooking the Tupelo and Cypress swamp and check in for the tour. Be sure to take a look out of the back window to see if any backyard guests are lurking in the murky waters below. Don’t forget to use the restrooms before embarking on this 2-hour tour throughout nearly 70,000 acres of the Honey Island Swamp, a permanently protected wildlife preserve.

While walking down the dock, embrace the excitement of seeing the moss hanging from the gnarled cypress trees and the sweet smell of wild azaleas in the air. There's an undeniable eagerness to explore. Listen intently to the captain’s tales of pirates, Bigfoot, and prehistoric creatures roaming the region while entering the primitive beauty of the Honey Island Swamp.

Keep an eye out for alligators, herons, egrets, deer, feral hogs, nutria, raccoons, otters, turtles, and frogs — an abundance of wildlife along the banks and the in the murky waters. Or look up and out for bald eagles, owls, osprey, and other waterfowl soaring through the skies. They could be visible one second and gone the next.

Those touring Honey Island can easily see why Louisiana is known as the Fisherman’s Paradise. Passing through the Cajun village, where local fisherman reside, see them catching bluegill, redear sunfish, largemouth bass, and warmth. Thousands of pounds of crawfish are caught in these waters every season as well.

All the tour boats are inspected and approved by the US Coast Guard. These small, custom-built, flat-bottom boats transport approximately 20-24 individuals each. They are operated by experienced local guides who interact with the guests and make the trip both enjoyable and exciting.

With the journey back up the river, the captain leads the way to the original departure location to close out the tour.

The guide was great and very knowledgeable about the swamp and river we were on. Knew the history of the swamp as well. He shared about some of the science and biology of the swamp and the animals found in the swamp. He also shared about the people who live around the area. Very interesting!

Brought relatives from France, they would’ve been excited to have seen just one alligator. We saw plenty! Wish I had had cash so I could have left a great tip 😬. Very informative, educational and FUN! Our guide was very easy to understand and funny.

There was 8 adults plus 1 child (11 years old) in our group and we all had a gee-at time. Captain Kyle was informative. We were able to see alligators, snakes, raccoons and other wild life in the bayou. The other most interesting part of Honey Island Tour was that Kyle took us where Disney movie Princess & the Frog was base on. We were able to see the Wishing Tree where mama Odie lived. The staff awesome

This was an affordable swamp tour. My wife wasn’t thrilled about going so I found the best priced one which was Dr. Wagner’s. They were very busy had busses of kids and other guests taking tours. We enjoyed the boat ride and seen several gators and snakes. Seen raccoons which was also being watched by a gator. Learned several things about the swamp and the river. Will do this again sometime on our next visit with grand kids

Fantastic trip. We took visitors to a nearby tour last week. We chose this company for this week's visitors. While similar, this one spent more time in the actual swamp. This tour did not have a huge Pavillion where we were divided into groups wearing wristbands like a cruise ship. It felt more intimate. The office is a small cabin with clean bathrooms. The gift shop is small. It carries appropriate items and no pressure to purchase anything. There are some small snack items available if needed. Our Captain, Roy, was great. He is a local man who was well versed in swamp flora, fauna and lifestyle. The boat was covered, and there isn't a bad seat. It was full, but not crowded. You start on the Pearl River. You see real homes and "camp homes." We saw turtles and gators up close. Definitely worth the price for a 2 hour tour. We'll bring our next visitors here. Don't forget to tip your captain, he/she keeps you safe!
