Completely Heartbreaking! I witnessed a lame horse being whipped to pull a carriage of 4 around Seville in blistering heat. These poor horses go up and down hour after hour, day after day, probably year after year. Often times they look malnourished and exhausted. Just last year a horse collapsed and dropped dead in the middle of the street. How can people continue to support this?

The sight of all the carriage horses all around the city is a sad sight and we wouldn't dream of going for a ride. We saw the drives take good care of the carriage, but never did we see any offering their horse water, food or a friendly touch. The horses seem apathetic and without any spirit. I hope someone is smart enough to find a modern way of letting tourists meet these amazing animals with their welfare in focus. I would pay for that.

Having been around horses since I was a small child, I'm always very sceptical of horse drawn carriage rides around cities when travelling overseas due to horse welfare concerns and will only support them if I see a good standard of welfare. I was really pleased to see how well cared for the carriage horses in Seville are. They had plenty of shade at the cab stands and there are special water points installed where buckets can be filled for them to have a drink. The horse on our carriage was well groomed, wearing correctly fitting harness and looked fit for his job. He trotted along through the Park with his ears pricked, clearly interested in his surroundings and happy in his job. The driver's whip use was what I would expect. I do carriage driving at home as a competitive sport, so I know that gently touching with the whip is a necessary communication aid because you don't have the use of your legs like on a ridden horse. It should never be used as a punishment. Our driver clearly knew this too, which was pleasing to see. We went early in the morning when it was cool, so to minimise the impact on the horse. My only concern is that I hope all horses get a proper siesta when the heat peaks. But otherwise, it was a highlight of our trip. It's a great way to see the city and especially the Plaza De Espana and Park Maria Luisa, which are ideal for driving because they are wide and flat with lots of shade from the trees.

The ride was really nice and peaceful. Our driver didnt speak English though and the only words he knew were the names of the landmarks we rode by. He pointed them out, said the name, then said “very nice” to almost every one. Giving it 3 stars because he did show up right on time, did provide a cute and comfortable horse + carriage, and was nice enough to take our picture! Probably wouldnt do this again since we didnt benefit from an actual “tour” of learning anything.

Please do not use the horse-drawn carriages as a way to tour Seville. I recently visited Seville and was sad to see horses being made to work long days in 40 degrees of heat with limited water and no food that I saw. The horses do not receive breaks from their tight harnesses which must be extremely uncomfortable in extreme heat. Please do not contribute to the mistreatment of animals whilst on your holiday.

We arrived at the meeting point and waited for about 15 minutes- no one arrived. We called and after some difficulty our reservation was found. A carriage finally arrived and we had an abbreviated ride which was very nice but the experience was not smooth.

What a lovely experience, would advise to go in the evening it looks so pretty with everything lit up. My first concern was where do the horses get watered etc but after our tour the horses got water and a cool down which was nice, they are kept in the shade all day too. From what was seen they were well looked after. It's €45 but it's very good and it's historic as Seville in know for horde and carriage rides.

Drivers to ensure that passengers know they will be dropped off at a place different to the starting point. We weren't aware of this this and ended up having to hail a taxi after the carriage ride as one of our group has mobility issues.

We were on vacation, walking around the city and one of the people suggested that we take a carriage ride. After asking for a price, 45€ for each carriage (4 people) and we easily negotiated for each one to take 5, since there were 10 of us, we rented 2 carriages and took a tour of the historic center of Seville. What a great decision that was made. 50 minutes where you saw and heard the history of the city and it is immense, where you walked through the chaotic traffic of Seville. I strongly recommend that you take this trip, it is very comprehensive and beautiful.
