Itinerary
On your way up, you’ll stop at a beautiful lagoon where the horses will refresh themselves and you’ll be given time to stretch and look around. Continuing on, you’ll come to a lookout with marvelous views of the Arenal Volcano. Have your camera ready, because you’re going to want it!
This trail mainly covers private property, and was initially used by Don Tobias, a well-known horse breeder in the Arenal area. The Don Tobias stables take good care of their horses and work hard to ensure that their guests have a memorable experience.
We recommend bringing long pants, a t-shirt, binoculars, camera, sunscreen, and insect repellent along for this tour.

All clients will be picked up at their hotels between the route from La Fortuna downtown to the Arenal Volcano National Park. The pick-up time can vary between 10 to 15 minutes, so we recommend that you be ready at the time indicated.

William and Kendal were AMAZING! They took very good care of our group and were very reassuring throughout the ride. They were more than willing to take as many photos as we liked. At the end they gave us the most amazing snack as well. HIGHLY Recommend.

We had a group of 10 and everyone had a blast. The horses are healthy and well taken care of by the staff. The horses rotate so they are not working everyday. I personally had a younger horse still learning the reigns, she was a bit spicy in terms of obeying commands but I was also hesitant to be aggressive. Tour guides were funny and knowledgeable.

Our guides were wonderful and did everything to make the experience as fun as possible. We were able to do plenty of cantering and they took plenty of pictures. They were very knowledgeable about the surrounding area and eager to talk. I would definitely do this ride again!

Hands down the best experience in Costa Rica. I booked it just randomly when I was browsing through the Tripadvisor activities for Costa Rica, I am glad I did. The whole experience from being picked up from the hostel to being dropped off was great. It was my first time doing a horseback riding and I felt very comfortable. The horses are well-trained and beginner friendly, they know what they are doing. And the guides are amazing. Kendall and the whole team were very helpful and made us feel very comfortable the entire tour. They take pictures and vidoes for you so that you don't have to worry about dropping your phone (btw be careful with the phones). They also stop to show us wildlives along the way. Definitely the best way to explore Arenal. 1000% recommend it, you'll not regret it.

AMAZING company! We felt like family at Don Tobias stables. Our guide was Kendall and the experience was nothing short of incredible. We will never forget our experience. We loved every minute and the staff at Don Tobias. We will definitely be back.

We can’t say enough good things about our tour!!!
Will was a fantastic host and guide… you could tell he loved his work as much as we loved the experience.
The horses are loved here… they run free under the shadow of the volcano… coming down to the stables for food and tours
You could tell the horses enjoyed working together… my horse was a companion to my wife’s, enjoying the views as much as we did.
Two and half hours of wildlife and vistas.
Finished off with fresh fruit, coffee and freshly made juices.
To be honest people should come here just for the homemade cheese… so good

What an experience! Will was our guide. He had so many great stories and was incredibly knowledgeable. The horses were so healthy, the grounds were beautiful. At the end of our tour we were offered fruit, fresh pineapple juice and cheese that was made on site that morning. This tour is well worth it. The views were amazing, Will has the best ‘office view’ Thank you!

Such an incredible experience, highly recommend! Horses were well looked after and our guide Issac was fantastic, felt very safe on relaxed horses and the views were amazing! We even saw a couple of sloths!

Beautiful scenery, well cared for horses, great staff. Kendall was an excellent guide! He made us feel very comfortable riding which we don’t do often including our six year old.
We were a small group and went through varied terrain including steams, canyons and pasture. Kendall was very knowledgeable about the history of the land and the volcano. The vistas up on the volcano were incredible. We saw sloths, wild pigs and many birds.
Wonderful hospitality including generous snacks of fresh fruit and tortillas at the end of the ride.
