At historic Dalkey Castle (1390), Costumed Living History Actors bring the ancient history to colorful life with archery, barber surgery and a cook giving a masterclass on circular economy (nothing was wasted) in medieval times, as part of every guided tour.
Tour also includes exploration of the atmospheric 10th Century St Begnet's church & graveyard connected with the site.
The heritage center is also included with interactive screens in different languages & scale models.
A Writers’ Gallery features interactive panels of the work of 45 locally connected creative artists from James Joyce to Bono and Samuel Beckett to Maeve Binchy.
Climb to the battlements for magnificent views of the surrounding stunning landscape view of the sea and mountains.
If you are with a larger group, perhaps add on a guided walk. Tours every 90 minutes.

I highly recomend this visit! the actors and the guide were excellent and I learned a lot of interesting stuff, not only history and dates but also lots of details on how people lived in the middle age, taught in a very entertaining way. also very appreciated that they did it just for me as I was the only visitor on Sunday morning :)

I absolutely loved this tour. It was amazing to see the history of this stunning building come alive and I felt the experience was great value for money. I loved the informational video and I would return again.

11/04/24 10.00 a.m. This was a brilliant tour! The guide was absolutely fantastic. Her knowledge and enthusiasm for her subject matter was really excellent. The actors were also brilliant and, using humour, really gave a good insight into life in medieval times. I would definitely recommend this tour to anybody, visitor or local.

Unique museum experience with live actors and nice videos explaining the interesting history of Dalkey. Highly recommended for children and adults.

My husband and I plus our 17 year old son thoroughly enjoyed the Dalkey Living History tour. The actors on the tour were exceptional and hearing their stories about the castle and history were intriguing. There was 1 other family on the tour with us; they had an 8 year old, 6 year old and their 70 year old grandmother. The tour was appropriate for all ages. And, it’s 60 minutes - just the perfect amount of time before boredom kicked in.

Today for our March tour we went to Dalkey Castle where a Lady called Minota was as our excellent host and tour guide. The tour was a mix of historical information and interactive scenes with live actors who were very entertaining and seeing the castle from the rooftops to the ancient church and burial ground. A tour I highly recommend and the consensus among our members was most enjoyable.
We then adjourned to the Collimore hostelry for lunch. A most memorable day.

This was the absolute best tour we have had on our entire trip! Lots of fun pleasant guides and the staff who provided the interactive part of the tour were charming, kind and in character the entire time. Really great, really accessible and really engaging. I give it a ten plus!

We really enjoyed this experience, it was very informative, interactive and fun. Our 10 year old loved it and was amazed my the beautiful view from the top and what he was told to do at the top of the castle (if you know you know 😘) The Actors stayed in character throughout which made it magical.
