Itinerary

Potter's wheel experience

Please allow 1.5hrs for your visit.

On arrival you'll be offered a warm welcome from either Jon or his wife and fellow maker Sarah.

Following an easy to follow, step by step demonstration, you will share a wheel between two, having two goes each. You’ll then be offered one of three choices:

1) The ‘green’ option. We’ll recycle your attempts so your clay can be enjoyed again and again by our lovely customers.

2) Select your favourite pot to take away, air-dry and paint at home.

3) For an additional £20 per pot we’ll fire and glaze your creation. If you go for option 3, your masterpiece will need to dry thoroughly before it goes in the kiln. It will be fired twice. This whole process takes about a month, after which we’ll contact you to let you know it’s ready for collection from the Pottery. P+P can be arranged at £5 per item.

Inclusions

  • Clay and hand tools

Exclusions

  • Please bring an apron and a hand/tea towel for drying hands at the wheel

My friend and I had a lovely time at the introduction to the potters wheel. Jon and Sarah were really fun, they gave good instruction and were very supportive. I would highly recommend and would love to do again in future.

A truly enjoyable 90 minute experience where there was learning, fun, mindfulness and camaraderie all achieved through throwing some clay.

The whole weekend was amazing! Jon and Sarah were friendly and created a welcoming relaxed environment and were very encouraging to everyone. It was wonderful to see how everyone enjoyed creating their pots and the results were all different but lovely- even though most of us were complete beginners! ! It was a very special way to spend a weekend and I may be hooked!!

What a fabulous day. Jon, Sarah and Ellie were fantastic teachers (as well as superb potters in their own right). We had great fun and learned some real skills using the potters wheel. We even produced some goblets and bowls. Time flew. We were complete novices as were the other 6 on the course, but we were taken through theory and practical work and all 8 of the people on the course produced some interesting pots!

A fantastic experience! I attended the weekend course as a complete beginner and ended up making pots and a plate that I'm quite proud of. The tuition and encouragement given by the hosts made for a lovely relaxed atmosphere for the small group of 8. I would thoroughly recommend.

Our party of 9 all had a wonderful time, with excellent tuition and guidance. Jon is very knowledgeable and engaging, and with all his experience knows just how to guide ‘rookie’ potters! With Sarah on hand to help guide us too, we all managed to create a couple of pots/dishes, though some were consigned to the recycling heap at the end of the session! Everyone enjoyed it - thank you Sarah and Jon for an educational and entertaining morning.

We had a rewarding and fun experience with The Happy Potter. From booking over the phone to pottery tutoring, everything was welcoming and clearly organised. We had a great time and 100% recommend this introduction to pottery.

Spent a fabulous couple of hours here being taught how to use the potters wheel (with varying degrees of success! 😄). Jon and Sarah were so helpful and patient and made the experience thoroughly enjoyable, I’d highly recommend a visit. Looking forward to receiving my glazed and fired creation posted out to me in a few weeks!

Really enjoyed this session. It was great to watch and then have ago and then watch and have another go. Not nothing you would normally think of doing however definitely something worth doing even if it is to say you have done it. Jon and Sarah were very welcoming and patient. Great present and very different.

I really enjoyed my day. I am not 'physically' creative or at all competent and I made some wobbly pots. Jon and Sarah were both lovely and encouraging. I didn't go with the anticipation I'd take home anything usable or beautiful. My aim was to enjoy the experience of watching a competent potter at work, and of having clay on my hands. Mission achieved.
