Itinerary

A craft course where you can unleash your imagination and give birth to a very unique piece of art.
The papier-mâché was imported from China during the Heian period (794-1185), which consists generally in a wooden frame covered with paper.
At “Pink. Asakusa Cafe” you will be able to create your original souvenir painting the base papier-mâché plain body with any colours you want.
First, choose your favourite plain body, and start to paint your ideas.
Don't worry, if you don't know how to start it, the staff will support you!

【Available shapes】
▶Daruma
It is in round shape and it’s said that the daruma doll always gets up no matter how much times it falls.
▶Manekineko
In the olden days, cats were considered lucky charms for sericulture because they get rid of mice that eat crops and silkworms.
▶Fox mask
Fox masks are used in Nōgaku and Kagura.
※Depending on availability, the requested plain body may not be available.

【Activity details】
① Choose one plain body you prefer between daruma, manekineko and fox mask.

A peaceful hour of Japanese arts and crafts in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Asakusa. Definitely recommend.

Patricia is amazing. So kind and generous with her information. We wanted to know a little more about the history and culture of the figures you could paint and she told us so much! Her English is amazing and she is a wealth of information. She takes pictures of you as you work so you don’t have to worry about doing that as you work. I wish the time was a bit longer to paint, but the class is worth every bit of what you pay and the experience you get!

My husband and adult daughter had a wonderful relaxing time doing our craft. A great time out of the hustle and bustle outside for the 1 hour. Would recommend.

This was such a great way to spend a rainy afternoon. My kids (17 & 7) both had a great time and got creative with their designs. Was also nice to have a little time to sit and rest and be away from the crowds. Best part was at the end of it, you have a nice keepsake to take home. Very nice staff, too.
