Itinerary

Come enjoy a taiko drumming performance and workshop at Sairi Yashiki! Sairi Yashiki is an historical estate with 7 warehouses filled with exhibitions of clothes and works of art from the late 1800s, as well as 2 former residences. At this beautiful historical spot, you will be treated to an energetic taiko drumming performance, followed by a lesson where you can learn how to beat the traditional taiko drum. After learning a simple song, we will give you a "happi" coat to wear and you can perform the song on Sairi Yashiki's outdoor stage. We will record you on your phone/camera so that you can take this memory home with you.

If the weather is not good, the experience will take place indoors.

Depending on the availability of the taiko drummers, we may request a time adjustment when you make the reservation. We may also be able to adjust the activity time according to your schedule.

Admission to Sairi Yashiki is included in the fee.

If you select the "Drum Workshop + Kimono" option, we will dress you in a traditional Japanese kimono and hakama pants/skirt set in addition to the taiko drumming workshop.

We were greeted with an amazing staff and introduced to our Taiko sensei Zeba Whi spoke both English and Japanese fluently. Zeba was very helpful and patient teaching my wife who has no drumming experience , I have been playing western drums for 35 years so learning Taiko was much different and Zeba helped me understand the Techniques and why they are used . We were able to Jamb together it was an experience of a life time . We were going back next year for lesson number two . Afterwards the staf called a local restaurant that was close by that I believe was closed they let us in and fed us. We had the restaurant all to ourselves. Truly an amazing experience. If you were ever hear it’s a nut do

This has been one of the most amazing experiences in Japan for me so far. I have always been so fascinated by the heavy beats of the Japanese Taiko Drums. I always wanted to experience it myself but never had an opportunity until I saw this event in Marumori, Miyagi. Marumori is a very small town in the southern Miyagi prefecture, and in general, it is nature heaven. I was filled with awe during my entire journey from Sendai to Marumori via JR. The local farms, friendliness radiating from the locals, and the garden of Sairi Yashiki was just a cherishable experience for me. This is the setting where I exploited my inner artist as a Taiko drummer. I just loved the entire experience, wearing the "happi", traditional wear Taiko drummers usually wear, so you can feel the entire experience is authentic. I am always very thankful to the hosts and organizers of this experience, their welcome and friendliness are beyond words to express. I will recommend anyone traveling to Miyagi, to at least once try this incredible experience - I assure that you will return fully satisfied.

I amazed just after entering the building. It was so beautiful. I thought that playing the drum is difficult because I never tried before. But our guide made it much easier. They were so helpful, fun, and kind. I really like this tour.

The Marumori city was very beautiful. I went with my girlfriend and several other friends. In this trip, we saw a traditional Japanese building, it was originally a house for a local business family, but after a long time their business ended and the house was turned into a museum. Within the museum there was a doll house, a samurai room, and many other intricate sights that sheds light on how old Japanese life was like. It was a nice experience.

Marumori city was surprisingly serene and magnanimous because you could see mountains and beautiful landscapes as you leave the train station. We went to visit the sairiyashiki ( a traditional storehouse) left by a wealthy family many years ago. The storehouse looked like a mansion lived by a family who specialized in the making of soy sauce. I was mesmerized by the beautiful architecture of the buildings and there were many decorative ornaments placed in these buildings making it looked lively. Right beside this house, I went to savor some gelato and it was so good. They had a few other flavors too that looked really good.

The experience was everything as promised. Sairi Yashiki, the traditional Japanese building, was about 25 minutes walk from the Marumori station. The local guide lead us through its history as we explored the establishment. Then we learned how to play the Taiko drum from a pro and performed on the stage in the beautiful garden of Sairi Yashiki. The staff is also very friendly and nice. It was a really fun and relaxing day.

The drum lesson was interesting and easy to follow. Drum sound is so fascinating. I liked the way that they wanted the class to be more free like we screamed "hay" in the end. The traditional japanese building was great. Also I think it would be if there is more things to do.

Our group had a great time learning and performing the traditional drum "wadaiko" for the first time. Wadaiko drums have a really powerful beat and loud sound to it. Time really flew when you are learning and having fun. We didn't even know that we already spent a whole day there. Staffs are also really friendly and helpful too.
