Itinerary

Your whale watching adventure begins with a narrated transfer from the pier to Auke Bay. There your captain and onboard naturalist will welcome you aboard the North Star, our state of the art 48-passenger jet boat custom designed for Juneau whale watching, with large windows and an outside viewing deck. On clear days you'll have a beautiful view of the Mendenhall Glacier as your sightseeing vessel departs the dock.

Juneau has a healthy humpback whale population with some 65 whales returning each season to feed in the nutrient-rich waters, and your captain is excellent at locating them. In fact, whale sightings are guaranteed! If a whale is not spotted during your cruise we'll refund you $100 ($50 for children). Your captain will let you know when whales are spotted, but it's more likely you'll first be alerted by the collective chorus of "Oohhs!" and "Ahhs!" from your fellow adventurers as they witness a giant humpback suddenly breach.

Captain Jackie and Megan were fantastic. We saw so many whales including one that breached 3 times, sea lions, and a rare sea otter sighting. They were very knowledgeable in their facts and did a great job seeking out wildlife. We would highly recommend!

Very enjoyable tour and for early season we saw a lot of humpback whales. Captain Lee, Savannah, and Melanie did a great job of showing us the way around the beautiful waters off of Auke Bay. Highly recommend

In town on a short visit to AK I read the reviews and chose this option for a treasured whale watch experience. I arrived by city bus 4 from Valley Transit as my hotel was near the airport and I was not a cruise ship passenger. Greeted by a really friendly, enthusiastic group I learned this trip was pretty much the first of the season. Captain Lee a lovely genuine fellow who chatted all things travel with me before departure, Savannah our very knowledgeable naturalist shared her joy and passion of Whales. We headed out and quickly sped to join the flotilla of craft patiently waiting for Humpbacks to appear which they did often, we moved around to different locations and watched for the signs of whales in adjacent waters. A really great experience under the crews care and we definitely saw the trademark breaching and tale appearing rolling over many times. My only slight negative perhaps the layout of these particular boats did not allow easy repeated access to the open deck at the back for photographs. Safety of course is a concern when moving around but other craft around appeared to have easier higher access. Nevertheless the crew were marvellous and the attention to detail great. Helped my beer at the nearby Forbidden Peak brewery go down a treat. 5 stars for a great team who shared this amazing experience

We had such an amazing time. The entire staff was so friendly and knowledgeable about the area and whales. We were able to see multiple whales, breaching, and my parents were able to be part of the 1% who are able to see whales in their natural habitat. It was an experience of a lifetime!

Lee and Libby were amazing Captain and Naturalist. They were so friendly and knowledgeable and made our trip special. They knew exactly where to go to see the whales (mama and babies) and sea lions. Fun excursion!

The trip was not organized at all. We took a bus from our ship down to the port, waited around for 20 minutes. Went on the whale watch boat, saw very few whales. Most sightings were on the other side of the boat, the captain did not seem concerned that we saw so little. Many ships were much closer, but not us.

Our first tour was cancelled and rescheduled for later in day. Expected to see more whales, only saw a few in the distance. Rainy and foggy weather-no fault of the company.

We had great time! Ask for Libby (best tour guide in Juneau) & Captain lee…! They are experienced & patient, we got to see many whales and tons of information from Libby. After the tour our cruise line messed up and didn’t send a bus to pick us up back to our ship. Libby stayed with us and took care of all of us, made sure we all got back on time…! What a kind and amazing person
