An amazing experience. Loved the guides. Didn’t see dolphins but hey, that’s nature, I don’t hold it against the tour! Will definitely do it again

We could not recommend this experience more highly! We were so lucky and had an incredible sighting of a huge pod of dolphins but the really highlight was how incredible the guides were with our children 6 and 12 years old. Absolutely the best experience!

The dolphin pod was all around us and we just sat and enjoyed every moment with our guides to help us get out and back through the surf. It was a bucket list dream and finally achieved.

I went with Cape Byron Kayaks 13/04/24 on their 7am kayak. Our party was three adults, two adolescents and three children. I was paired with my child (8). The entire kayak party was ~25-30 people. My child and I were sent out to break the waters in what ended up being extremely rough, with large waves rolling us multiple times without assistance. The third time, the kayak came down on my ankle, leaving me unable to move my foot and swim. We finally received assistance, with my child screaming and upset. I was towed to shore while another instructor took my child out while they begged to be returned to shore. The instructor who towed me to shore watched me hobble to the sand. Asked if I needed an ambulance. I said I didn’t think so. He shrugged, pointed down the beach 200m and said ‘then go down there’. No first aid or assistance to walk offered. I watched multiple kayakers rolled by the rough surf and struggling significantly. There were multiple children and older adults on this tour. Instructors were panicking and not in control of the situation. Was told by instructor HE WAS THE ONLY QUALIFIED LIFEGUARD PRESENT. For 25-30 people in rough surf. I was unable to return to the tour due to my injury, and another adult and child in my party did not get to participate at all as they took me to the ER instead. While I was waiting to be picked up by the car, the owner/manager was extemely rude and combative to the adult who took me to the hospital. When we returned to pick up the rest of the party, same owner/manager was combative with me and made it clear that everything that happened was my fault. No refund for myself or the adult and child who could not participate. Only 1 lifeguard despite website claiming ALL instructors are lifeguard trained. No first aid kit. Observed non-trained instructors watching people get rolled and struggle from the beachside until being yelled at to help by the lifeguard-trained instructor Despite a waiver in place, there is an expectation that these people are capable and have an understanding of when it is safe to go out, and identifying if it is safer for less experienced/children/older adults need to be ferried out by instructors, or rebooked during a safer period. People with children should’ve had a third adult/instructor in the kayak. No one voiced concerns about this. There is implied trust in their abilities when you sign a waiver, and I did not feel that this was a safe experience - there was clearly pressure to get a large group of people out on the water and keep business going.

If you are reading this, just know dolphins are not guaranteed. Nonetheless the kayaking was still a very fun experience. Kayaking was harder than I thought as it was in the ocean and you have to get past the crashing waves to get past the current. However on the other way around you have to ride the wave in and being on top of the wave even for a short minute it was thrilling. This activity is a full body activity and you will be tired. It was a bummer there were no dolphins or sea turtles but they do offer a come back guarantee if you don't see them for free. Unfortunately, I was leaving the next day and didn't have time or energy to do the activity again.

Our tour company booked this as an extra excursion. Didn't see any dolphins. Very few leaders for the size of our group (approximately 12 double kayaks) All of the kayaks flipped when coming into shore. Our kayak had a broken handle which made it difficult to carry down to the beach and back I kayak at home and have kayaked in Hawaii a number of times. I have never been on such a poorly planned and unsupervised trip. Leaders really didn't seem to care - very blase. When our kayak flipped my partner was in trouble. There wasn't a leader in sight. I had to send a surfer over to my partner since I was a fair distance away from him Leaders said since we didn't see any dolphins, we could kayak again for free - like that was going to happen as we were all tourists

Magical experience ! First time in Australia and 1st booking on kayak tour with dolphins. Despite a bit of wind and waves, safety was there. From briefing to kayaking, the staff was paying lots of attention. Friendly, pro and of course… we saw dolphins ! A truly magical moment, seeing so many around us, living freely and making it a top memorable experience. A big thank you and definitely recommend this experience. 💙💙💙
