Stop At: Tongass National Forest, Ketchikan, AK 99901

After a dozen years of running kayak tours in Ketchikan, we're consistently surprised at the number of visitors who never set foot in the Rain Forest. Our E-Bike tour originated from a desire to get more visitors into this amazing rain forest. With almost 200 inches of rain annually, there really is no place as lush and unique as Southeast Alaska. The forest floor is bountiful with all kinds of Flora and Fauna and depending on the time of season its not unusual to see deer or or salmon swimming up stream.

Port times for most folks are very limited, so we wanted to maximize your time by combining multiple activities on this tour. Plus we wanted to offer more than just a hiking tour anyway. So we made the trip to the trailhead half the adventure in itself. And how could we not stop along the shoreline of the sea along the way back? It's not unheard of to see Porpoises, Seals and Sea Lions or sometimes Humpbacks from the beach.

Stop At: Ketchikan Kayak Company, Ketchikan, AK

Electric assist bicycles are bicycles. You pedal them and shift gears like any other bike. They are very quiet in operation and are not classified as a motorized vehicle. However, when you want a little boost in your ride just twist the throttle and you'll quickly see why e-bikes are so much fun to ride. These bikes are powerful and seriously cool. We can cover more distance using e-bikes than conventional bicycles, you don't have to worry about keeping up, and they are the perfect way to get just the amount of exercise you're after. They are very accommodating with a step-through frame so you don't have to throw a leg over the bike to get on and off. We recharge our e-bikes with hydro power so they are a clean source of fun. Our tour usually max's out at 8 people, so no chance of getting lost in the crowd.

Get out of town with us on your visit to Ketchikan this summer!

We arrived to Ketchikan on the Celebrity Solstice and we wanted an experience that was different than what was offered through the cruise ship. We found the Bike and Hike experience with Ketchikan Kayak and it was fantastic. The entire process was extremely smooth - easy meet and pick up at the pier, transported to their location north of Ketchikan, met up with our guide, Danyel, and her two trainees, Cheyenne and Brenna, and off we went. They all made us feel so safe and comfortable and really allowed the experience to develop into what we wanted. The bikes are super easy to operate and make the 5 - 6 mile ride to the trail head enjoyable and carefree. The hike was breathtaking and informative as Danyel lead us through the forest with several educational stops along the way. And the stop on the beach was stunning. We had a great time getting to know all three of them which made the experience even better. We HIGHLY recommend this experience for anyone on a cruise ship!!!

What a great tour! Danielle is extremely knowledgeable about all things Alaska and the beautiful surroundings outside Ketchikan in particular. Asia and Cheyenne, two guides-in-training, accompanied us and they were great too! What we loved most about this adventure was that we were driven some 20-30 minutes out of the port/downtown Ketchikan area, to a fishing marina that’s well off the beaten path. After suiting-up with rain gear (you don’t need to bring your own), we got a brief orientation to the e-bikes and we were off! I didn’t clock the ride, but I’m guessing it was about 5 miles each way and the e-bikes made the ride a breeze. The road is well paved, there’s not much traffic and the scenery is beautiful. After reaching the end of the road (literally), we left our bikes and took a hike out to the waters’ edge. I’m visually impaired and don’t see downhill transitions (e.g. steps) all that well, so I was slow on parts of the trail, but people with good vision should have no problem at all with the steps. Overall the trail is extremely well marked and maintained, with much of it comprised of wooden planks that give you about a 4’ wide walkway. There’s a bit of up and down, mostly on wooden steps, so you’ll need to be physically fit enough to handle stairs. The little hike was excellent and so picturesque. After the bike ride back to the marina, we nibbled on tasty salmon and crackers before being driven back to the port. Overall this was an excellent adventure and it made us wish our ship had spent more time in Ketchikan. If you want to see and experience something other than touristy shops and giant ships all lined-up in the port, this adventure is for you. Everyone was extremely friendly, patient and helpful. This tour really made our day and so far it’s been the highlight of our 11 day cruise out of SF. A++

We had a great time on this tour! Marybeth was super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. She went above and beyond to make sure everyone was safe and happy. It was one of our best tours! The bikes were easy to use and the walk through the forest was beautiful and we learned a lot. We had several phone conversations with the owner, Devon Bittner, and he’s absolutely wonderful and helpful. He runs a fantastic, professional and friendly business!

This was a very good tour we spent on both e-bikes and walking through the local rainforest. Our guide Danyel was informative and easygoing and she did a great job of getting us all outfitted with the bikes and teaching us about the natural habitat, too. We had a small group which made for a very relaxed and yet personalized experience. I’d happily recommend this tour as a great way to spend a few hours learning more about SE Alaska.

Our E-bike and rain forest hike was one of the highlights of our trip to Alaska. The driver from the Ketchikan Kayak Company met us at the dock right on time at the designated spot, which was very easy to find. After a short twenty-five minute drive we arrived to be fitted with E-bikes. The company had all kinds of rain gear available for us if needed, as well as helmets for everyone. It turned out the weather cooperated and we didn't need the rain gear, but they do provide it for rainy days. We were introduced to Mary Grace who gave us an E-bike lesson and made sure we were all comfortable riding before we headed out for the rain forest. We stopped at two beautiful waterfalls along the road for photos and to simply enjoy the scenery. After a half hour bike ride we arrived at the rain forest for our hike. The trails were very well maintained mostly wooden planks and steps. We had a nice small group of six people. The four of us traveling together were all over 65. We are all in good shape so were able to ride the bikes and hike through the rain forest just fine. Mary Grace was a wonderful tour guide, fun to be with and very knowledgeable regarding the life in the forest. Our E-bike ride back was enjoyable and when we arrived back smoked salmon with hummus, veggies and crackers were ready for us, along with coffee and other beverages. Everything was professional and punctual, arriving back at the dock on time. I would highly recommend this tour and if you're lucky enough to have Mary Grace as your tour guide that would be a bonus!

This was such a fun excursion! The weather was great and tour guide Spencer was fun and entertaining. We enjoyed the scenery, the bike ride, and the hike. I only wish we would have seen the bear the group in front of us saw on the beach. We loved the opportunity to see more of the island. Zena, our transport driver, was very helpful. She even agreed to drop us off at the Alaskan Fish House afterwards to help us continue our Ketchikan adventure in the short time we had before needing to return to the cruise ship.
