Visiting shanty town was a cultural shock and basically being able to appreciate what you have. All the money from the tour goes to the people who definitely need it. The founder of shanty town is an Angel to do all the work she does. I had Leonardo from Haku Tours and he was very knowledgeable..People in the US have no idea how lucky they R…

Aura is a wonderful guide. Very friendly and knowledgeable with lovely English. She is well received in the Shanty Town. I was welcomed warmly and felt safe, as I expected, but others have commented about their insecurity in this regard. What the community leader has done in the past eight years for her community is remarkable. I am so grateful for the hospitality and the experience. Highly recommend.

One of the best experiences I had in Lima. Was really cool to see the in's and outs of the side of the city I would have never seen otherwise. Really put in perspective the condition of people who are much different than I and I was glad I was able 2 somewhat these people financially.

I joined the tour as a solo participant. Amadeo took me on the tour of the shanty town. He was very knowledgeable and respectful of the people and was respected by them in return. He gave great insights as to how and why the shanty town came to be. We walked through the market, climbed the yellow stairs and spoke with the mayor of that area and some local families. After lunch I joined another group for the city and catacombs tour. Felipe was our guide and he too was very knowledgeable. He gave a lot of background information and explained to us the history of the city. I highly recommend this tour.

This tour was perfect for our day in Lima. I felt we saw both sides of Lima, which was very interesting and enjoyable. We firstly visited the shanty town area, and helped pass out parcels to the locals, that Hakutours purchase from the profits from these tours (they also fund a lot of local projects). The visit was thought provoking and quite emotional. We then visited the city including the catacombs, which was a huge contrast to the shanty town, and beautiful. Our tour guide Felipe was excellent and very personable. There was a little confusion over the lunch, as he initially thought that it wasn’t included, but when I mentioned that it was, he immediately sorted things out so that there was no delay and we ate at a local restaurant. The food was fantastic, probably the best paella I’ve had, and certainly the largest. The whole trip was very well organised and we were picked up and dropped off at our cruise pier on a timely basis. Overall this was the best trip of our cruise.

Had the pleasure of doing the City and Shanty Town tour in Lima with Haku Tours. Both guides were knowledgeable and gave great insight into Lima’s history and the true living conditions of a large % of its residents. Can highly recommend this tour company and the tours it provides.
