Itinerary

Stop At: Rancho Carisuva, Playa Migriño, Libertad, 23473 Cabo San Lucas, B.C.S., Mexico

Come and visit our lovely ranch, where you can meet our conservations programs: Donkeys and Turtles

Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At: Playa Migrino, Mexico

From July to September in Cabo, Olive Ridley and Black Turtles come to shore to lay their eggs deep in the sand before returning back to sea. The baby turtles hatch about 45 days later, but during this time we protect the nest and take care of the eggs. Our job is to raise the percentage of survival as much as possible. The tour is guided by a marine biologist which brings a fun, educational learning experience where you take part in the release of these baby turtles back into nature.

Unfortunately the time that you have chosen to travel doesn’t always match up with the weather gods. On the cooler side than what you would normally have expected. Cold fronts can push down from the north this time of year. This affected a number of travellers who were looking to do some water activities. Choosing land base adventures like golfing, ATV or E-bikes and city tours were just right.

Honestly, we enjoyed the turtle release experience very much. The two who led our release were very knowledgeable. I would have given our experience a 4 or 5, however, I am displeased with getting a response when we had to cancel one of our reservations. My husband was not able to attend the release, because he had to fly back to the states the day after we arrived due to a family emergency (his father had a tragic accident and ended up passing away). We notified Rancho Carisuva immediately. We tried calling, but no answer. Our concierge tried calling, and there was still no answer. I emailed the company and advised of the situation, and did so within the time period listed on their website. I got a response that they would look into it, but have not received any more replies to any of my emails. I enjoyed the turtle release, and my husband would like to go next time we are in Cabo, however, we will not use this company if they are not willing to work with us on our refund. So anyone looking at Rancho Carisuva..... use caution. The turtle release experience was great, however, the company does not appear to work with you when there is any kind of problem.

Amazing experience. Beautiful farm with donkeys, horses, and chickens to view while we waited. Getting to hold the little turtles was precious. We got to dig up a few that had just hatched which was priceless. Pulling living baby turtles from the sand after digging gently down about a foot was crazy awesome. We had huge waves so releasing them was a little tricky since the water would push them way back but we kept placing them closer and eventually they were pulled into the ocean. Oh yeah - we also saw whales off shore breaching and spouting. Magical

Turtle Release / Conservation Tour: What was good: The biologist Indira was very polite. What was bad: it seemed like the baby turtles were being exploited for tourism and to make money off of! They deserve to be left alone. 1) All tourists were touching the baby turtles. The babies were dug out of nests in the sand, but there were no eggs in the sand. It felt like alive turtles had been burried in the sand for tourists to dig out. The nest locations were marked. 2) The baby turtles which we dug out were not released, despite that there were no seagulls. It felt like they would be placed back in the nests 3) The baby turtles looked stressed when 100+ of them were placed in one bucket. They were all trying to get out. The babies underneath were struggling 4) It did not feel like a very natural experience. It felt like the biologist and tour guides were orchestrating where the baby turtles and nests were, giving tourists opportunities to dig the babies out, hurting and stressing them with hands, and then not even releasing them in the ocean. 5) All the tourists were taking multiple photos by touching and holding the babies that wanted to get away. The biologist did not monitor this and did not ask the tourists to handle them less. Overall, it seemed like the baby turtles were being exploited for tourism and to make money!

The best activity we’ve had in Cabo. Your money not only gives you a once in a lifetime experience, it also goes towards helping endangered sea turtles. The marine biologists walk up and down the beach during the day to look for turtle nests and lost turtle babies and brings them to a safe location for releasing. They do this everyday for months just to give turtle babies more chance to survive. It’s really an honor to be part of this mission. I highly recommend this activity when you are in Cabo during turtle hatching season.

We really enjoyed learning about the turtle conservation taking place here in Cabo. The baby turtles were so cute and determined to make it to the water. We are glad we came on this tour and wish the little turtles a safe journey.

I booked a private tour with my family and when we arrived to the ranch, we learned that there would be another 22 people with us. We were not notified ahead of time that there was a change or we would have canceled. I asked for a 50% refund which has not been provided. This was a complete bait-and-switch.
