Stop At: Grand Canal, 30100 Venice, Metropolitan City of Venice, Italy

Flowing through the heart of Venice, the Grand Canal is a sight to behold. Spanning over 2 miles in length and shaped like a backward "S," this iconic waterway weaves its way through the city, connecting captivating neighborhoods and showcasing the architectural wonders of Venice.

Embark on a journey along the Grand Canal and witness the grandeur of the palaces, churches, and buildings that line its banks. Marvel at their intricate designs, adorned with colorful facades and elegant details, reflecting centuries of Venetian history and cultural richness.

As you glide along the shimmering waters, soak in the vibrant atmosphere of Venetian life. Admire the graceful gondolas and vaporettos as they navigate the canal, transporting both locals and visitors to their destinations.

Duration: 30 minutes

Pass By: Teatro La Fenice, Campo San Fantin San Marco 1965, 30124 Venice Italy

In the late 18th century, Venice boasted seven ancient theaters, two dedicated to drama and the rest to music. The most luxurious among them was the Teatro San Benedetto, located near Campo San Luca. Established by the Grimani family in 1755, it was later handed over to the Noble Society of box holders. However, due to a judicial agreement in 1787, the society was expelled and compelled to surrender the theater to the Venier nobles, who owned the land on which the building stood. The society promptly set out to construct a new and grander theater, which would be called Gran Teatro La Fenice, like the mythical and immortal bird mentioned by Herodotus in his Histories. Just as the phoenix is capable of rising from its own ashes, this new theater would symbolize society's rebirth from its misfortunes.

Pass By: Ponte de le Ostreghe, Calle de Le Ostreghe San Marco 2438, 30124 Venice Italy

There are numerous toponymic persistences that recall a widespread presence in the past, somewhat throughout the city, of horticultural activities or in any case of undeveloped areas covered with vegetation, among which we can mention the campi, campaign, and courtyards of the grass or the calluses of the fighter.
The first certain attestation of the Rio dell'Alboro dates back to 1696, while that of the Rio de le Ostreghe joins it in the following century. It is probable that a seller of these delicious seafood was stationed nearby, the cultivation of which in the lagoon had a significant boost especially in the first half of the 19th century, leaving evidence also in the ostregheri canal of the same name, today Canale dei Lavraneri, in Sacca Fisola.

Pass By: Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute, Campo de la Salute Dorsoduro 1, 30123 Venice Italy

Santa Maria della Salute, located in Venice, is a magnificent basilica that stands as a symbol of gratitude and hope. Built-in the 17th century, it was dedicated to the Virgin Mary to commemorate the city's deliverance from the devastating plague.

Its impressive domed structure and elegant Baroque design make it a standout architectural gem along the Grand Canal. The interior is adorned with exquisite artworks and elaborate decorations, creating a sense of awe for visitors.

Today, Santa Maria della Salute remains an important religious and cultural landmark in Venice, drawing both locals and tourists to marvel at its beauty and significance.

Booked Gondolier trip in Venice £148.22 for two people, advertised as a “magical 30-minute experience around the canals of Venice, book now to avoid being over charged locally, but if you do find it cheaper, we will price match”. The trip was rubbish, last 20 mins at most, only thing the gondolier said was to moan about the weight not being distributed evenly, basically went round a few corners and back to base, then another 5 mins just to park up again. The event organisers were advertising same trip for €36 pp. On complaining they refused to price match. So if you take my advice DON’T BOOK, it’s a scam, and pay locally, but go to a private Gondolier and not the rip off merchants we used. So much for the magic of Venice.

What a waste of money, we paid £148.22 for 15 minutes in the gondola. There was no narration and we went out of the docking area, up a side canal and back. To top it off the other couple on our gondola had paid €37. 00 each. I will be contacting Tripadvidor for a refund. Also it was not magical, just a conveyor belt. Do not book before you travel!

If your purpose is to say you "did it" then this is fine but if you are wanting an experience then this is not for you. As they say you get what you pay for. Our Gondolier chatted with another Gondolier the whole time so we had another group of people in a Gondola next to us the enitre time. The water taxi had a far more intimate experience but we have pictures to say "been there, done that."

If you are going mid day with the crowd, you will want to book as lines are long. This was my 2nd ride. My first I did in the morning on my own w no crowds so the water was peaceful and it seemed to be a longer ride going solo.

My recent gondola tour in Venice was an absolute dream come true! The whole experience was nothing short of magical, and I cannot recommend it enough. The picturesque canals, charming bridges, and stunning architecture of Venice truly came to life from the vantage point of a gondola. Our gondolier was not only knowledgeable about the city's history but also a delightful entertainer, sharing fascinating stories and local anecdotes that added to the charm of the ride.

Our gondola tour in Venice was the highlight of our trip! From the moment we stepped into the elegant gondola, we were transported to a world of elegance and charm. The intimate setting was perfect for a romantic outing, but I can see it being equally enjoyable for families and friends. If you want to experience the true essence of Venice, this gondola tour is the way to go!

Ik had mijn moeder meegenomen naar Venetië en deze gondel geboekt. Het viel toch tegen, het was 22 min en dat is kort voor zoveel geld. We hadden hier meer van verwacht het zou nl 30 min duren.
