The app was amazing. It was very informative to all the places to see on the road to Hana as well as watching the sunrise at Haleakala and also to see the summit.

We used this for the Road to Hana and we loved it. From clear directions to quick summaries about stops, we thought it was engaging and funny too! The VO was conversational and told us about the history of different areas. When we came upon a stopping place, he let us know if it was worth our time or about how long it would take, if you needed reservations, if it was free or not and if they had restrooms. The app was very detailed and helpful. We wouldn't travel without it!

The app worked better than expected, and the GPS narration was spot on. Like it so well, I’ll be using this same tour app while on Kauai.

Good navigation guided tour. Many spots I wouldn’t have been bought of seeing. Highly recommend the Shaka guide for Maui and Kauai, the two islands we visited.

Enjoyed the stories and the recommendations- best part was the National park! We hadn’t made reservations for the black sand beach, so couldn’t go there, but the trails at the park were so worth it! Great info!!

First things first. Download this app, buy the bundle for whatever island you're on, and get a rental car that lets you off-road. BTW there will always be a chance of rain on road to Hana. Try to do this on the sunniest day you have on your trip.
A friend told us about Shaka Guide before we went on our adventure and it totally enhanced our trip. We did the Road to Hana AND the Reverse Road to Hana guides on Maui. You'll want to download the guide before you leave your hotel and such. We got to see some fun spots that were not as commercialized, or known about and learned a lot about Maui and it's history.
My recommendation --- do the reverse road to Hana route if you're comfortable doing it, I do not recommend doing this route if there's a high chance of rain on the southern side of Maui that morning.
Get started as early as possible. You'll want to pack some snacks, bathing suits, towels, and cash. AND make a reservation at Wai'napapa State Park. If you do the reverse route I recommend the mid-afternoon slot.
The Pipi'wai trail is a MUST do, it'll take around 2 hours and be the most rigorous thing you do all day. Everything else is a stop-go, decide how long you want to stay kinda thing.
With the Maui bundle you'll also get a trip to Haleakala summit, highly recommend going at sunset and packing warm clothes! Aloha, and enjoy!

We used the Hana driving tour it was pretty cool. I like this service however, and have recommended it to friends it’s cool to hear about the history, and knowing when to stop the car to check out certain spots.

We absolutely loved this guide. Great stories and so so helpful. Helped you stay on time so you weren’t driving winding unfamiliar roads after dark. Great ideas for food shopping and bathrooms. We really do t think the trip would have been as fun without it!

We purchased this after using the Guide in Kuaui last year. We did the Reverse Road to Hana, the Classic Road to Hana (because you can't finish in a day), West side Maui, and the Sunset tour. All were good, although a few needed a little better directions as entrances were completely covered with growth, and a few places were closed.
We definitely saw things that we wouldn't have found without the Guide.
