Stop At: Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary, Monkeyland Road Follow turn off from N2 highway, The Crags, Plettenberg Bay 6600 South Africa
The aim of the sanctuary is to afford these wonderfully intelligent creatures a healthier, more natural life and aims to raise public awareness about primates. Over 550 apes, monkeys and lemurs live at Monkeyland. On arrival in the parking lot you will go through a screening station where we require everyone aged 3 and up to have a form filled in and temperature taken from the wrist. You will then be escorted to reception where after you have your ticket one of our guides will take you on a 45 min to 1-hour tour. If you require a guided tour not to be in English but in Afrikaans, German or French then please book this at least 48 hours in advance. On your tour with one of the most experienced primate guides in South Africa, you will see an array of primates living out their natural lives in the 12-ha indigenous forest. This sanctuary is suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Wheelchair accessible. All Weather facility Masks are required at all times.

What a great couple of hours exploring all 3 parks.
Monkeyland - our tour guide Elano was very knowledgeable, educating us on the various primates within the sanctuary. Good to see the work being done to ensure the primates live a happy and safe life. Well done to all
Birds of Eden - we strolled round at our own leisure seeing various birds, lovely to finish with the flamingos.
Jukani - our tour guide was Elvis, again very knowledgeable, demonstrated compassion for the Big Cats, another inhabitance of the sanctuary. Good sense of humour too. Thank you we had a wonderful experience.

Wow. 600 monkeys covering 10 species surrounded us in the wild. The trees were alive. Lucky we didn’t get weed on or worse. To see so many different monkeys, large & small, some with babies clinging to their mothers. They did seem unnaturally tame allowing our small group to walk amongst them, but given their history understandable. Feeding stations were where most of the action was. A very memorable visit. Do give a donation to the 1m2 fund if you can before the tour starts.

This was a great outdoor adventure to learn and be close with different monkeys. We went during their feeding time so it was very fruitful (excuse the pun) as there were so many monkeys that we could see and some of the rare ones also came out on our guided tour.
The sanctuary is beautiful ad it is great to see how they look after these animals who have been abused or abandoned and then putting them in a safe place for them to live well.
It is a must for any animal lover!

I loved the time we spent in Monkeyland and would highly recommend it. There are so many monkeys and you can get so close to them without touching and invading their space too much. It was so entertaining and I didn’t stop smiling the whole time.
We didn’t have issues with mosquitos after putting on the cream offered at the start point. Our guide was nice and informative too. There were so many lemurs which I loved too.
All in all I would recommend this to anyone it was a great experience you’ll travel far to find again elsewhere.

We took the 3 in one and visited all 3 sanctuaries. The guides were very knowledgeable and kept us entertained with their knowledge and stories. Job well done to Itiaan and Elvis. It is really worth the visit and in the same time you support the great work these sanctuaries are doing.

Went there instead of the elephant sanctuary after reading such terrible reviews on it. The monkey sanctuary was a pleasant surprise. Very good guide and informative. Loads of different monkeys to see up close. Small group in the tour.

We had a fantastic time, guided by the exceptional Enrique, who was very well informed and interested. There are loads of monkeys all over the place, amazing to be so close. I loved the gibbons best of all.
NB. Wear long pants and socks, the warnings by others on trip advisor about mosquitos are to be heeded. They are merciless. If you are prepared, with appropriate clothing and mosquito repellant, it will be a fantastic experience.

Monkeyland is definitely one for the list as a must see! There are monkeys from all over the world that are being kept as they cannot go back into the wild. These monkeys come from all walks of life including zoos as well as being kept as pets. Monkeyland has become their safe space and you get to learn so much about each species. The guided tour was great fun! Do lather yourself in the mosquito repellent they provide as the mosquitos are relentless especially during summer.

Very disappointing. It was a very rainy morning. We saw very few monkeys/apes and probably only about 5 different kinds. The guide mentioned that this was because of the bad weather. Our tour ended after appr. 35 minutes (instead of being between 45 and 60 minutes) We started the tour from 10 am too late and already finished at 10.44 h. They should mention the influence of the weather or give a discount on the ticket because there is almost nothing to see.
