Itinerary
During this safari, you will hike with our local guides in Dovrefjell-Sunndalsfjella National Park to look for muskox.
The muskox live in the mountains, so for this hike, you'll need waterproof hiking shoes and wind-/waterproof clothing. The weather can change fast in the mountains, so bring multiple layers of clothing.
This safari generally lasts 5-6 hours, depending on where the animals are, weather, group fitness etc. We'll have a lunch break, so you need to bring your lunch, something to drink and perhaps a snack.
The animals move freely in the national park, which makes it impossible to know how every day will be. Guests need a moderate fitness level, as hikes can be between 7 and 15 km in total, with elevation along the way.
The muskoxen are wild animals and need to be respected. We therefore keep the advised safety distance of 200 m. Our guide has a telescope for everyone to use, but if you have binoculars we definitely recommend bringing them!

Great tour and we saw many musk ox! Our guide Rune was very experienced and knowledgable, explaining interesting backgrounds and history of Norway, the national park and the animals. There was also a possibility to be picked up for a fee which helped us a lot as we were staying in Dombås.

You need to show up on time, dressed for the weather and in your best mood. The guides will do the rest. They know their job and we found the animal in no time, approached and were able to watch it safely. Everything is organized very well, you can rent binoculars and we even had a portable telescope at our disposal to observe the muskox closely. Overall a great way to spend a day in nature. Highly recommended!

The Dovrefjell area landscape is quite magical and we had snowy mountains as our backdrop. Our guide Kim was very knowledgeable and delightful to spend the day with. We did get very good views of a musk ox, lingering to admire him for a while from a safe distance. Kim set up a scope for close up views and photos. I highly recommend this special safari!

I did this safari after driving down from Trondheim. We went with a small group of 8 total plus our guide Kim. The group was great to go with and chat while on our hike. Overall we did about 11km round trip of hiking, and was chilly but not that cold. We saw about 15 oxen on this hike and where able to get close enough to get good photos from a distance.
Make sure to wear waterproof boots and not just hiking boots.

Just an amazing experience! We've been a group of four and we've booked a private tour for both muskox and moose safari...what can we say? Kim is the perfect guide you're looking for! She's so professional, kind and competent! We know that it's not up to the guide if you spot or not animals (because they're unpredictible) or how close you can get to them neither, despite everything we've succeded in seeing many muskoxen and moose as well! They usually talk about musoxen and moose before the safari so that you can learn a lot about them! We strongly recommend their tours!
