From the initial email communication to Visa paperwork being delivered to our hotel prior to our arrival, shuttles and porters helping with bags - every service exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend using Nagi of the Mekong. La was our guide and he was very helpful and fun. He was a caring individual whose pride for his country and his job shone through. The boat was comfortable and the food was AMAZING!

From beginning until the end, Nagi of Mekong exceeded our expectations. Being on the boat was so relaxing and I feel very greatful that we had the chance to watch this stunning landscape pass by. It felt like as if we were taken back in time. The boat is in a very good shape with comfortable benches and the possibility to sit outside to admire the landscape even more. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. From picking us up at the hotel to assisting us in the visa procedure to handling our luggage, everything was perfectly managed. We could even exchange money on the boat at very attractive rates. Snacks and drinks were available at any time, the quality of the main meals was really good - one of the best meals we had in Laos. Our guide was very knowledgeable about Lao customs, people and culture. I also want to emphasise the guide's really good command of English. While planning our trip, we were debating whether to fly to Luang Prabang from Thailand but after this amazing journey, I am beyond happy that we chose otherwise. If you have the time, let Nagi of Mekong take you back in time on this stunning journey on the Mekong! This was definitely one of our highlight on our trip through Southeast Asia.

We had an amazing two days on the Nagi of Mekong cruise! The staff was extremely friendly, and the food was some of the best we had in Laos. The boat wasn't overcrowded and there were nice resting areas available. This boat is a good compromise between the public boats and the absolutely overpriced luxury boats (we saw them - they did exactly the same tours as we did and didn't provide any additional services). For the overnight stay in Pak Beng make sure to book one of the cheap hotels - you won't have any time to enjoy the amenities of the better hotels, it's not worth it.

a nice way to travel and to finally get to Luang Prabang! At the start you do lose a lot of time going thru Laotic customs as there are a lot of fellow travellers - Customs charge 40US$ pP but also accept Thai Baht. Once on the boat you can enjoy the friendliness of the staff while watching the landscape gliding by and a surprisingly good lunch. We prolonged the stopover in PakBeng but mind you there is not much to see

Fantastic experience from start to finish. This will be one of my favourite memories from Laos. Super friendly crew, easy transfers on the vans, comfortable boat, delicious food and a surprisingly social atmosphere onboard made this such an enjoyable couple of days. It could be tempting to save a little money on the public boat - don’t. This cruise will actually let you enjoy the two day journey, and I’m very pleased to have decided to book it.

We stayed in Chaing Khong in Thailand and were collected from our hotel and transported and navigated through passport and visa controls to the boat in Huay Xai. The boat is a single storey, open sided river boat with tables, benches and some spaces to lie and read to watch the world go by. Our guide La was absolutely on it with useful information, currency exchange, SIM cards and so much more. He was a truly gifted tour guide. You get water tea, coffee and fruit provided each day along with a fantastic buffet lunch suitable for Vegetarians and others although I recommend that you let them know in advance if you have any dietary requirements. You can by other drinks as well. Bath, Kip and Dollars accepted (not sure about Euros). On day one you stop at a Mekong village to understand a little more about the challenges of rural living. If you want to donate to the school, can I recommend you seek out the Luang Prabang library who support education across rural Laos. Overnight we stayed in Pak Beng in the middle option, The Sanctuary which was very good with a pool and views of the river. We didn't venture out as the staff were lovely and the restaurant food amazing. Day two you stop at Pak Ou caves which were a little disappointing and needed some TLC and then another village for rice whisky tasting. If you want the slow trip down the Mekong, time to read, chat with new friends or just watch the world go by, this is a must. Thanks to the boat crew, the cook and in particular La for a very enjoyable experience.

Great and professional organisation by Nagi of Mekong. The cruise itself was most enjoyable. Our guide friendly and informative. The buffet lunches tasty and ample. Our one complaint , Packbeng. We did this cruise many years ago and were able to complete the trip to Luang Prabang in a single day. However it appears that the Packbeng stop is now obligatory for all boats. If this is indeed the case we believe that the town can make a better effort at welcoming visitors who are a captive audience and have no choice but to accept this charmless place as is. For example, providing a plank or jetty for easier disembarkation from the boats. Many of the "restaurants" were just plain downright grubby with staff to match. With the money that is brought into this town by the boats' passengers one would expect some investment in taking care of the goose that is laying the golden egg.
