Lovely tour of the Bavarian countryside. I would highly recommend taking this tour. The countryside was beautiful in April with lots of greenery and clear views, I’d say this is a great time to book in! Definitely pay for the castle tours, they’re worth it.

We did the upgrade experience for this tour - the host and driver were fantastic. The bus amenities (comfortability and snack selection) exceeded expectations. The castles themselves were beyond expectations. On the trip back to Munich, we were even treated with beer!

The entire trip was great. Our guide Monica was a great narrator with historical information, fun facts and friendly delivery. The castles were amazing and the story of King Ludwig has had me researching today for more information!

When we got with our guide we were told it was 300 steps up. If we started we could not go back to exit. This was at Neuschwanstein. It would be a good idea to list things like this in your description of the tour. My husband went in and I stayed out.

Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about Ludwig II, the man who built the castles we visited today. Enjoyed her way of explaining and exploring his life. She also pointed out many other details as we traveled through the area. Our driver and host was wonderful. He had a fun personality and added positively to the experience. I only have two negative thoughts on our tour yesterday. 1) We were told to be there 20 minutes early, that our bus would leave at 0830, so our family decided to meet at 0810 in front of the bus terminal. My husband and I got there at 0750. At 0805, we had boarded the bus and they told us they were leaving. We pointed out that the tickets stated they would leave at 0830 and our other family member hadn’t arrived yet. They told us he could get on another bus and we would meet up later in the day. The point was to take this expensive tour TOGETHER. My husband and I decided to split up to make sure our son made it onto the correct bus. Anyway, it was rather messy so I would suggest you get there, not 20 minutes early as Viator asks in their literature, but at least 30 minutes before the stated tour time listed on your tickets. 2) We spent some time in Obermmergau (sp?) but it was a very short stop. We only had time to look at some handcarved wood items (impressive!) that the tour company suggested and grab an ice cream cone. It would’ve been nice to add another 30-45 minutes in that cute little town to walk around and see the painted homes, stop in a few more shops and have time to visit the restrooms. All in all, we had a great time, I just thought the tour’s timing was off in a few things, including the Neuschweinstein Castle tour. The tickets were for a specific time that we had to wait almost two hours to get in, but then if we didn’t make a beeline for the bus afterwards, they told us we would be left. So we waited and waited for our specific time to get into the castle but then literally needed to run uphill and downhill (a long way and a feat for those who are not in great shape) to make it time for the bus’ departure. ****Viator states to not take this tour if you are physically unable-PLEASE PAY ATTENTION to this! My husband has had health issues the last 15 years of his life and I was truly afraid something major was going to happen as we were heading back to the bus, he was SO out of breath and unable to walk at the pace needed, the color drained out of his face. He should not have gone on this tour! He insisted anyway and paid greatly for that decision.

We (three adults) did this day trip from Munich. Our guide, Debbie, was full of excellent information and had a great sense of humour. She made sure we had all the info we needed at each stop and gave us very clear details for timelines/meeting points. Jordan, the driver, was great as well and got us to our destinations safely and efficiently. The castles were absolutely beautiful and did not disappoint! The only way it could have been better is if we were allowed to take pictures inside (obviously not any fault of the tour).

Good tour, but too long. Way too much time spent looking at extra areas, like towns with the Passion Play. Why! Neuschwanstien Castle was worth the wait to see. But leave Munich at 8:30 am and visit castle at 3:10 pm ?? Then hurry back to Munich. Viator needs to review this tour. Or offer a shorter version.

DO NOT TAKE THIS TOUR!!! I am horrified at the amount of money we lost because of terrible communication on this tour. My family and I booked this tour with the Münchener Stadtrundfahrten to visit Neuschwanstein and Linderhof Castles. As someone who has been to Neuschwanstein before, I knew ahead of time that you had to get tickets ASAP and these tickets can easily sell out, which would make the whole castle trip useless. When I booked this tour, I booked without entry to the castles as most others on my tour did as well. Using the timeline they gave in the itinerary, I purchased my family and I tickets to Neuschwanstein, and since the itinerary noted that we had 4 whole hours at Neuschwanstein, I booked Hohenschwangau for my family as well, figuring we would have enough time (again based on the itinerary). Also, as a note, Neuschwanstein castle tours are only about half an hour, so I had no issue with scheduling the two castles (Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau) in the same “4 hour” period. Also important to note, there was NO INDICATION on the tour’s site that they would be selling castle tickets on the bus. Long story short, we got on the bus, which departed late, and almost immediately were told by our tour guide that we wouldn’t make it to Neuschwanstein until 1:30 (our scheduled tour was 12:40 which I booked based on the itinerary they gave me). So when I asked our guide for help, she wasn’t super helpful in any sort of solution for us other than that we could buy the tickets for the Linderhof and Neuschwanstein castle on the bus (which, by the way, is more expensive than if you were to buy yourself). And, absolutely no help contacting Neuschwanstein staff to try to see if we could move our ticket times. Unfortunately, the castle staff are unwilling to allow you to move your tour times and your tickets become void when you miss the tour so now we either miss out or buy a COMPLETELY new set of tickets. We lost roughly 200 euros worth of tickets for Neuschwanstein, Hohenschwangau, and Linderhof because of the incredibly poor planning/ timing of this tour provider and because of false itinerary advertising. On top of this, we had to pay 37 each to get back in. Let’s talk about the tour itself. We stopped first at Linderhof palace which was nice, but incredibly short and somewhat rushed. Next, we stopped in Oberammergau, which in my opinion, was a COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME. We had 20 minutes here, which is nothing. We couldn’t even get a coffee in this time, considering everything was far from the bus or closed. For Neuschwanstein, the tour was scheduled 1.5 hours after we arrived, which I suppose if you wanted to eat, is nice. But if you are like me and was hoping to see the other palace or at least go to the Bavarian kings museum, the timing of the ticket made it impossible to do that. And, once we finished at Neuschwanstein, we had to rush out despite the fact that we could have seen more, such as shops or a short movie documentary the castle provided for visitors. Our tour guide was nice enough, and in the end she was somewhat informative and helpful. But I really couldn’t listen to or absorb anything she was saying on our tour because I spent half of it desperately trying to find a way to save our tickets we spent so much money on. The final message here: DO NOT TAKE THIS TOUR. Find a different tour that JUST focuses the day on Neuschwanstein castle. Linderhof was cool, but I’d have rather been able to see Both Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau (which is where King Ludwig grew up and got some ideas for the castles he designed). If you do take this tour, GOOD LUCK, and do yourself a favor and just buy the overpriced tickets on the bus. The extra money you’ll spend on them are much better than the hundreds you can lose by the tour messing up your own ticket planning.

Very well organised tour. Comfy, warm coach. Jackie was an engaging and knowledgeable guide. I appreciated her dry sense of humour. Neuchwanstein was beautiful and very dramatic.
