Lily was our tour guide. She's a smaller elderly, but very fast and friendly lady. The tour consisted in the beginning a bit of driving and multiple stops where you walk around and get to see local spots, which I would have otherwise not found or overlooked. Then you will go up the hill to Shuri castle and the observation deck. The tour is designed to introduce you very briefly to the history of Okinawa, with different scenary - less talking and more biking and walking (bring good shoes!). Whenever we had questions, Lily tried to answer them either from knowledge or by looking them up and getting back to us later :)
Definitely choose the e-bike!!! The streets up to Shuri castle are super steep. We had people with a regular mountain bike on our tour and the only person who made it up the hill without getting off the bike, was the person who is doing triathlon in her spare time.... Lily always communicates the next move on the bike via hand signs and the intercom, so noone gets lost.
This might just be a me-thing: While you mostly drive on side streets and narrow passages (where you meet lots of pedestriants), there are some main roads you have to drive on, in regular traffic. There are no biking lanes. To me that was a bit scary when cars drove past me with only 20-30cm distance. You really have to drive all the way on the left, where all the manhole covers are. Cars do not switch lanes to pass you by as I am used to in other countries. It did stress me quite a bit and took away from the experience when driving on these main roads.

We had a super competent guide, explaining everything patiently. The helmets have microphones, where you can communicate with each other while riding. If you like riding bicycles, definitely do it!

This was our first visit to Okinawa. We were disappointed that due to weather the sunset cycling tour was cancelled but Maki contacted us ahead of time and was very accommodating with our schedule. We got to do a morning trip the next day. It was great. Maki took us to several really beautiful spots and showed us little hidden gems that we would never have seen otherwise. Also, she told us about the history of Okinawa and about the culture, etc. We really enjoyed ourselves--a highlight of our 2 week trip to Japan. And when we were done Maki recommended a great noodle place right across the street from the bicycle shop for lunch!! Would definitely recommend this cycling tour company and guide!
